I have to say that I'm impressed with the new S7 Edge, It has almost everything I want for a flagship this year
Too bad it still uses MicroUSB instead of Type C..... and no Force Touch.
But overall, its a solid and tempting offering. I might need to wait for the Z6 to make my decision though

Sony, pleasee shock and awe us with the Xperia Z6.
I have a bad feeling it's not going to happen this half of 2016 year though.

Well they rectified what was missing on the previous devices, microSD, battery size and added IP68. Oddly enough Samsung decided to use a 4:3 sensor now and not a 16:9.

No type C on the S7 because Samsung wants it to be compatible with the Gear VR, which if one will pre-order will receive a gear VR for free.

Doubt Sony will bring anything great to the Z6 as well, a brighter lens would be nice but without OIS, I might as well start saving up for a Alpha 6300.

^ their new IMX318 sensor has 3-axis digital stabilization, i don't think they need to add extra OIS into the Z6.

What I want from them might be a new design with focus on detail. Maybe adding 2.5D Glass and reducing the bezel. The new S7 Edge has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 81.72%, the Z6 need to get this.

What I really don't like about the Z5 is the sharp feeling between the glass panel and the metal frame, using 2.5D glass might solve this issue (3D glass like Samsung might not be possible for Sony atm)

I hope they use the new Display from JDI which has wet finger tracking. The new Zs should use USB type C, this is what i feel disappointed about the S7s

Z6 will most like use the upgraded sensor with OIS posted on xperiablog last week. Watching the head to head of G5 vs S7. What does the camera module add to g5 beside battery pack and camera shutter abd zoom control? z5p still looks like a better all around features of both of them.

The Module is definitely something I can do without. It only adds ugliness and physical keys for things you can do with the touch screen. I do want a physical shutter key though.

As for the Xperia Z6. I only care for improved UI, design and camera capability with full manual settings that everyone praises
USB Type-C doesn't feel like a necessity right now.

Personally I hope not, I'd rather sony use the larger 1/2.3 Z5 sensor rather than the smaller 1/2.6 imx318. Area size of the 1/2.3 sensor is around 24% larger, so more area to capture light, assuming Sony uses the same aperture for both. Pixel size is more or less identical, 1 vs 1.1um, so the difference should not be noticeable but I feel even with the small photo sony posted on their site, the is a minor difference.

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201602/16-013E/

Sony would have been better off developing a 1/2.3 sensor with 16MP, rather than cramming >20MP onto small sensors.

Well the stabilization seems to be more geared towards videos and not images so doubt it will

and built-in 3-axis electronic image stabilization technology for video

So not sure how well it will work for photos, this is why I would still want OIS.

@McKinley
Improved camera algorithm would be nice, along with manual settings but it seems sony feels this not necessary. Funny considering they produce some great professional cameras and definitely have the knowledge and know how.

Sure both the S7 and G5 bring great things to the table but I don't foresee myself replacing my Z3 for now.

It probably wont use that sensor, likely to be saved for their upper mid range line and for others to use.
They usually keep their flagship stuff exclusive for a while.

And that sensor shown last week does not have OIS, it was digital stabilisation.

Either way I dont think Sony will offer anything oustanding this year.
