If you say optical zoom is useless on a phone, then why the big fuss over 5mp then? Might as well stick to 3.2mp right? Megapixelles isn't evrything, I'd rather they improove the quality of the 3.2mp cam first, then next add optical zoom, then only jump to 5mp. Its ironic that you guys are saying that optical zoom is a gimmick when you're all making a big fuss about sofia having 5mp... I was rather dissapointed when rumours popped up that Sofia won't have optical zoom.
BTW, about the GPS and camera being a gimmick, well hey, you've gotta start somewhere right? If you're gonna say that
should only stick those stuff in once they have perfected it, then they might as well not put it in EVER. Because there is ALWAYS room for improvement when it comes to electronics. Might as well wait...
Can you imagine if they apply this concept and removed the add on camera MCA20 and MCA25 from the T68i and also remove the "crappy" camera from the T610i and T630i and K700i since it was not perfected yet? Define perfect? WHat can be considered satisfactory then?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Sofia and Elena will have GPS and optical zoom. Especially Elena, since its gonna be a high end PDA phone. I really want that phone. If all else fails, at least there is WM...

sanjeevjaya, i dont think Jedi-masters opinion is everyone elses. I for one would of appreciated optical zoom in sofia. I actually hope they use optical zoom soon in at least one cybershot se - we know it can be done...

I want that feature too, since I know its possible too...

just wait for sofias cam
no optical zoom, but hey..... wait for the quality.....

Only optical zoom provides provides a closer picture at the entire mp range. Software zoom just takes a smaller piece from the existing picture.

Just that reading this thread, genarally it seems that most people here are excited that the Sofia will have a 5mp cam. I'm just wondering aloud why almost no one here seems to care that originally the rumours said it would have optical zoom and now it won't have it.
But you know what? Come to think about it, its just a phone, not the end of the world...

When you mention optical zoom, do you mean a fixed optical zoom like that of the Sharp? Where it's a 3x optical zoom, or did you mean one of those movable lenses to zoom?
