Hi all,

I agree with Masseur that the Mini or Micro USB is indeed a great solution for both charger and or sync and charging although in my case not with a WM device but with a Bold.

Finally i have found a use for an old Motorola V3 usb in car charger that i am now using with my Bold, thankfully i discovered this just prior to buying one for the Bold that it turns out i didn't need.

This is one standardisation that i think really should be in all Mobile devices as it really does simplify things for all of us. One in car charger can last many devices same goes for desktop chargers and syncing cables to. It may not be as profitable for the company whose products we purchase and use but it is better for us and dare i say it the environment to.

I disagree. Having two connectors on a standard is not a standard. As it is some "standard" devices have usb-mini, some have micro-usb. That's TWO cables I need. I commonly use my K800, W910 and my Samsung. That's still only 2 cables I need. (and neither are usb mini or usb micro)

So it often really comes down to what you actually use. If all manufacturers utilised a common standard then it would work a lot better, but a large proportion don't play that game. For example of the 4 WM phones I've owned, only one used a "standard" (ie: usb mini). My others all use proprietary connections (hp ipaq, samsung, xdaii)

Though SE use proprietary I find they change their standard far less often than other manufacturers who use proprietary connectors. So atleast amongst my SE stable I have one connector for all.

For example for the last 8 months i used an E90 with a 4" screen @ 800x352 now in it's settings it offered three sizes of fonts small, normal or large. None of which lead to pixelation but did change the readability due to changing Font size.

Dogman, what a beautiful phone you have. This phone with a tradition of more than 10 yrs must be getting close to perfection. I sure the screen (5.86" sq) and aspect ratio of (9:20) looks great with a density of 48022 pixels per sq inch. and 219 linear dpi

Now i am using a Bold with 2.5" screen @ 480x320 but now i have a choice of 12 different Fonts and 8 different sizes. All on the same screen none of which look pixelated but all that look different from the hard to read for me size 8 to the much to large for me size 14 which again all appear differently dependent of the Font style chosen.

Believe or not, despite of having different resolution, screen size (3.11"sq) and aspect ratio (9:13) the density of the screen is very much the same as the E90 with 49383 pix/sq in and linear dpi of 222.

What all this mean? That a font size 8 would look the same in both devices sharp with no pixelation. (regardless of resolution and screen size). The only thing is that the E90 don't offer size 8 per se.

So screen size and resolution alone does not give you the whole picture of what you can or should expect. There are other things you need to factor in, as i have previously mentioned so far on every screen i have seen for the X1 the fonts look very small and difficult to read. Having a 800x480 3" screen seems too make little or no difference to that fact does it? it will be interesting to see just what choice of Fonts and Font size are available and in which screens they will have any effect or not.

You are absolutely right. In another post I named at least 10 factors that affect the quality of a display. The only thing that a beg to differ is that a font size 8 in the Xperia is sharper than any one of your two devices for the sole reason of a density: 96898 pixels per sq. inch. and 311 linear dpi.

This fact reflects the high quality of the Xperia screen where the pixels are smaller and closed together. Any density above that will be very hard for the human eye to see any signicant difference.

If you look at the table a couple of pages back you know without even looking at the screen that Omnia may have some pixelation and that a font size 8 will be imposible to read. (in fact I already read postings somewhere of people complaining about this in the Omnia)

i have seen for the X1 the fonts look very small and difficult to read. Having a 800x480 3" screen seems too make little or no difference to that fact does it?

Maybe you are saying this based on Youtube videos or pictures reduced and posted in the internet.

I've always wanted the silver, but, I bought into one of those bogus news stories about only black being available. I just requested a change to silver from expansys. Hopefully they can do so easily.

About your ppi numbers--they seem kind of huge...shouldn't you be using a square root somewhere in your calculations? For example, this would achieve 72dpi, 300dpi, and so on.

Oh man, you have insight. The table posted is just a fraction of broader analysis I been working on.
Yes the square root most of the times is equal to the linear dpi. but not always. (pixels are not always square) so I believe area dpi reflects the real quality of the screen.
For instace: See a case of same resolution different dpi:
Omnia width = 1.65" --pixels 240
Instinct width =1.52" --pixels 240
See here the linear dpi based on the square root:

................px/sq in...avg dpi

Xperia......96898......311
Touch Pro.86735......295
Touch HD..60202......245
Bold..........49383......222
NokiaE90..48022......219
iPhone......26995......164
Instict.......25235......159
Omnia......21206......146

Hope this helps

Thanks, I forgot about pixel shape being a factor.

Well, I'm not going to be against 384MB of RAM
It would be nice to know exactly what prompted the additional increase though.

WhyBe, anything but 340.
The reason is that 340 is not a true binary number. So forget it. Most probably it is 384, a multiple of 16. 128MB i't's multiple of 16 so 384 plus 128 = 512MB

Hi Guys, just a quick question. I have never bought anything from expansys, so I am not sure how their pre-order stuff works. I pre-ordered a X1 from their UK site. While it has been announced by SE that the phone will be out in UK at the 30th sept, it still haven't been updated by expansys on their webpage.

Just wondering the chances of them having the phone at the end of the month, since I wanted to change my phone for a while because of it's issue after having the main board replaced.

Also, some details that I still cannot confirm for the UK version is, what 3G frequency band will the SE X1 support? I've have read many sources which all seems to tell different stories, and from the expansys site it listed UMTS 850/900/1700/1900/2100 which I think is wrong.

Could anyone verify that? Thanks very much.

Regards,

Eric
