Pathetic, given age old SE dumb phones could play gifs right out of the box :-/

I must say that after the latest update the Arc is simply great.

I just rooted my arc, and cleaned out all the crapware. The speed increase is simply amazing and the free RAM that was previously wasted. I cannot recommend it enough, although I'm quite bad at modding my prized possessions I don't like to take risks (no matter safe it is!) I didn't realise quite how easy rooting actually is.

Download the file, then click RUNME.bat and follow the instructions all you have to do is plug the phone in and that's it less then 30 seconds you'll be rooted. So happy, but annoyed it took me this long to do it!

The S2 is supported by using DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit

It's the easiest way, before when I researched rooting and it talked about how I would have to downgrade the firmware then flash etc. and just seemed complicated but this really is no sweat!

bite the bullet!

Engadget IRL, they talk about gadgets they use in real life. Arc is being used by one of the writers as his regular phone.

"Arguably Sony Ericsson's flagship handset, the skinny Arc follows me everywhere. This one's now approaching the six-month mark, always accompanying me alongside my wallet and whatever new phone I'm getting to grips with (fortunately, I haven't taken to the Engadget trend of rocking five phones on four operating systems just yet). This is the one I keep coming back to when all those review handsets have flown the nest back to their respective manufacturers. Fundamentally, it's a single-core Android phone, running Gingerbread. It's got a 4.2-inch LCD display and an eight megapixel camera that can record 720p HD video. But casting the middleweight specifications aside, when I'm away from my desk and using the phone, there's so much to love. The curved frame that slips into my pocket, the tactile buttons and the camera, which is superb." (...)

Totally agree with what he says. Yes the build quality could be better, maybe a dualcore and some better specs overall, but the arc just works. Its a great phone, good battery life decent performance great camera. What more can you ask of a phone?

Arc is certainly one of the better phones SE has ever made. Its one of the FEW android phones who can challenge Iphone as a "normal phone" (cant describe it better)

I think this post pretty much sums up the Arc for me. I've had it now for 8 months and whilst it's never going to challenge the likes of the SGS2 and the iPhone for the average consumer, it is a solid phone, and arguably SE's best Android phone to date.

Sure it has it's annoyances (random re-boots, a little bit of lag now and then, camera restricted by overly harsh post processing), but design wise it is great, it holds well in the hand and the screen is lovely to use. SE also learn't by their previous mistakes and seem to be learning as they go along.

Agreed. And I think it actually can compete with dual cores as well besides maybe some heavy games. Otherwise it's almost excellent. Definitely best device since P910i.
