I remember last year after Sony announced the Sony Ericsson acquisition I had said that all development will move to Tokyo, Japan and almost all members here (I remember Aurelius quite well trying to prove me wrong) told me that it just wasn't gonna happen and the deal was merely a name change and nothing else.

I am personally feeling bad for all the employees who lost their jobs but it was unavoidable and was gonna happen sooner or later. I hope those 1000 people find a good or even better job soon.

Ofc you knew exactly what was going to happen even before Sony themselves did. You guessed and was right, woopidoo. Its a sad day for the entire mobile industry in Sweden, have some respect

I didn't mean to offend anybody. All I was saying is this is what was gonna happen and I felt it was surprising that nobody thought so back in November last year and in fact strongly believed that everything will continue to be the same except for the name being changed from Sony Ericsson to Sony.

... they paid for total control of the company because they wanted to make mobile devices one of their core businesses, and you can't do that while someone else has a say in what goes on.

@aurelius

I hope your friends were not part of the people who were layed off.

Anyways do let us know what your friends had to say after you talk to them.

And what about Rog ? I hope he's doing good and still working for Sony.

I said that the Lund quarter is EXTREMELY important for SONY. I said that there will be changes and layoffs but I didn't think they were gonna lay off that many. The good thing is that software/UI is kept here, if Japan gets all that we might just end up with a new Touchwiz

Sad day for many people in Lund today, need to call Lund to see what they think!

(EDITED your quote above by removing some things).

@aurelius,

I think the $1Billion was for Sony to do whatever they wanted/needed to do with the mobile division it was in partnership with, along with integrating it with their other divisions more closely for R&D.

I hope your friends get a SERIOUS severance package, and I pray their able to use it very wisely for education or taking care of their business at home. Tough times indeed. To be honest I REALLY feel Sony should've chopped the management who caused the failure to meet analyst expectations!! Just one executive being fired would save $xxx millions in salary, bonuses, and extras being paid! I'd LOVE to see a company have the BALLS to make this sort of move OUTSIDE of the Gold mining industry (both CEO's of Barrick & Kinross have been fired in the last 4mths.

Sony mobile has an all new management at the top. Almost all former execs have resigned and moved on to other firms.
