Are we likely to see 4.3 before the end of November?

you can't control the size of the aperture opening without the existence of aperture blades.

i'd like to know if the Z1 camera module has aperture blades or not.

if it doesn't then it is fixed f2.0 and there's nothing software can do to thcnage that.

@rency - it's fixed at 2.0 . none of my photos have a different aperture. which probably means there are no aperture blades to allow for adjusting it. otherwise, the auto settings would do this for us and we would see different aperture settings in EXIF.

As I posted earlier, this image shows no aperture blades

Nothing moves in the camera lens areas when you take the photo, so as moogoo pointed out, it is a fixed aperture at F2.0. This can't be changed as it is a physical property of the way the lens is built in the z1. Unless Sony has found a way to change the aperture of a fixed aperture lens, I doubt such aperture control will be like on actual cameras.

Now watching a demo of nokia's refocus app, I feel this is a nice method of creating pseudo aperture control. But I doubt it will be straight out selecting aperture control and having a f5.6 or f8. Who knows, Sony does have the ability to come up with great tech and software at times so perhaps I am mistaken and there will be real aperture control.

Looking forward to 4.3 and the new camera update, I will be ok with larger image sizes if it improves the quality.

I think we cannot base on that pic, which is used only for marketing purposes. On that pic, it only shows the lens, not the camera module, which comprises the machinery inside of it.

@moogoo

Have you ordered the tripod already ?

It's mentioned in the product page that the tripod works on phones upto 7cm wide only, Z1 is 7.4 cm wide and won't fit in.

And the ultrapod you linked is for compact cameras and won't fit the Z1.

@rency0722 & vikeviki

Like I said before and what moogoo mention, aperture is control by the aperture blades. The aperture blades are located in the lens themselves. If you don't believe me, you can easily confirm this if you have an SLR or mirrorless camera. Look into the lens as you change aperture, you'll notice the change in size of the iris, those are your aperture blades. So, according to that press image and if it's an accurate representation of the Z1's lens construction, then give up on any form of aperture control.

EDIT: Fixed up some grammar mistakes due to me being half asleep and typing on my phone.
