Like I said before and what moogoo mention, aperture is control by the aperture blades. The aperture blades are located on the lens themselves. If you don't believe me, you can easily confirm this if you have an SLR or mirrorless camera. Look into the lens as you change aperture, you'll notice the change in size of the iris, those are your aperture blades. So, according to that press image and if it's an accurate representation of lens construction, then give up on any form of aperture control.

+1,

I think we cannot base on that pic, which is used only for marketing purposes. On that pic, it only shows the lens, not the camera module, which comprises the machinery inside of it.

there is no space even for aperture blades, let alone the entire mechanism in such a thin body and camera module. It would require very small motor to change the aperture and very very tiny blades to be able to have such an iris on a small camera like the Z1. I doubt sony would put so much effort into miniaturization.

Have you ordered the tripod already ?

It's mentioned in the product page that the tripod works on phones upto 7cm wide only, Z1 is 7.4 cm wide and won't fit in.

And the ultrapod you linked is for compact cameras and won't fit the Z1.

Yes i ordered and received both already.

The ultrapod is for anything with a standard tripod mount and light enough for it to support. In this case, Z1 needs a tripod mount, but it is light so there's no worry there. The tripod mount details must be incorrect because it fits my Z1 just fine with room to spare. You can see the pics I posted of both a few pages back

@xperiajunkie - wasn't there some news of an xperia device getting 4.3? I can't seem to remember. But anyway, if one is getting it, then as a flagship, Z1 should not be far behind or perhaps will get it before that one.

@moogoo

Sorry I missed that post of yours. I was looking at tripods for Z1 few days back and found most of them listed 7cm as max width so I thought they probably wouldn't fit the Z1. Glad to know they work

Do post some samples taken with the help of tripod.

No update here yet either, but i suspect i'll have to wait for the secondary update that was just approved.

@xperiajunkie - no, never had that issue and i've added a few apps already.

@randomuser - tripod? or tripod mount? rest assured, the one i linked definitely fits. It is snug, but i'd rather it be snug than loose

also, i gotta say. I am LOVING my DK31 magnetic charging dock. It's awesome and with smartconnect integration, it's even better. My texts are read aloud which means it so easy to use and i have it go into daydream mode once on the dock with google currents. The imagery is gorgeous and looks amazing on the screen! Some samples of the different views that it goes through. These pictures aren't great. I didn't spend any time trying to get an accurate reproduction but you get the idea

Yep, no update here either......

As a side note, after purchasing my Z1, I haven't read the rumour thread as religiously as I have the past 5 years. Actually read it once every few days now. Feel that the Z1 will be my phone for a long while..... unless SONY has something in very near future that can literally wow me more than the Z1 did.

@moogoo Thanks for the links to the tripod and the mount. Looks like a great accessory for my vacation since it can also support my soon to be new A7! Though I'm still having a hard time deciding between the A7 and A7R, should've pre-ordered both, but didn't.......

@mnx - no problem man. you should check out the ultrapod II, it's a bit sturdier but i believe it has the same pocketability features. price is a few bucks more. I'm so jealous that you're getting an A7.. i am still surviving with my nearly 10 year old Nikon D70s
