I've tried this so many times now but it's just not working.

I have renamed the 2 files as per the guide but as soon as I select 'repair' or 'update' the software goes off and downloads the files again and updates my phone with the same firmware. How do I force it to use the 2 files I've renamed?!?!

Thanks!

I'm getting the same issue, i unbranded my phone before and it worked.. but now i'm trying to swtich the firmware to 014 so i can then get the 020 firmware for the x10a but it keeps downloading the firmware files over the ones i've overwritten.

i've also noticed i'm not getting the long file names any more it's only file_2345544 not file_2462468568_34q8436_56qw978_etc..

anybody know why? I tried with SEUS and PC Companion

im having exactly the same problem, ive debranded my phone before also but i cant get it to work right now because the file name has changed and SEUS keeps overwriting the firmware im trying to put in my X10a

I FOUND A FIX!!!

SEUS has just updated their program so instead of seeing a long file like this "FILE_277344675_1271909822000_1271909822000_277344670_114906833_INFILE_LONGTERM"
it is shortened like this "FILE_277344670"
if you have problems with SEUS like i did where it overwrites the firmware you want to install try this

to fix do what the original tutorial says but when SEUS overwrites your firmware let it download
when the 16mb file finishes over write it with the one you want to install
and when the download is just about 100% done overwrite it with the 100mb file (make sure you do this quick before it starts to install)

i'll give it a try krazi3azn.. but sounds like there's a big risk of bricking the phone.. do you still use the short names as the file name?

When did you copy over the larger file? at exactly 100%?

krazi3azn's technique works.. just drop the files in when the download approaches 100%.. i started copying the files over when it was 125.0/125.5mb

Hey All!

I recently got the X10 thru Rogers yesterday from the Roger’s Store. The agent advised the phone needs to be updated to the latest firmware, “R2BA020″.

As per: http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/07/03/rogers-xperia-x10-gets-%e2%80%98r2ba020%e2%80%99-firmware-update/comment-page-2/#comment-2087

“GaryIT” post on July 3rd, with the Megaupload Link for the Firmware, wanted to confirm if this is the generic version?

Because, if I am going to update, might as well get a Generic / Non-Branded Version.

Also, for unlocking, should I debrand 1st, then unlock or vice versa. Does debranding / rebranding locks the phone?

Also, final question, how do I back-up the Rogers MMS/GRPS settings? (e.g. for internet data surfing, photo/video messaging, etc.)

since it is a new phone, I got no media, no contacts, which is sweet!

Gary's direct link for the firmware it is:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WEL9HNZX

So, following either that website's update methods or this OP's instructions ... assuming at the last moment copy & replace over the 2 files and when windows prompt, click on replace ... I am using windows 7 64-bit.

is that all you have to do?

Is it possible to not update SEUS or will it automatically update upon launch?

@bimmerboi it syncs the moment you launch it.

www.omnios.com can flash any fw to your phone as far as i know. the files are downloadble from their site when registred and flashed thru the Omnius program. 014 and 016 and 001 after that you can update thru SEUS to the latest FW.

yea you have to find the right time to copy over, i had to do it a few times before i got it. it might depend on how fast your computer copies the files.
I dont think it will brick your phone because if you copy the files too early or late SEUS will automactically show an error and wont flash your phone

Was browsing for any news for the 3 UK firmware update on the web and found this...

"Just on your new update for SEUS It is a darn sight easer to run the 1st download as normal. Then replace the two updated files rename etc…
Then change the two files to “READ ONLY”.
Then run the update again. (SEUS can’t delete the replaced files)
The download screen will zip past and will load the new update to the phone.

I did this this week and now running 23"

May lead to less of a headache while debranding... anyone know if this works?

Not sure i like the idea of pasting firmware in mid download. However if I'll give 3UK a few more weeks before i try it.

Anyone on 3 UK had any problems after debranding?
