@northmonkey. The OS is basically the same.
Windows Phone needs users to get the apps at the same level as other platforms. Maybe it's because I came from
feature phone to wPhone that I don't mind to work my way around limits. And there are lots of possibilities to do so.
I sound like a promotor now
True but even if they get the users will the apps have the same function and ever be as good as other platforms?
I just hope Windows 8 doesn't die and end up in the gutter, I hope the 1020 will pull a lot of people from Android and iOS but will they? People might just think the 1020 is just good for the camera and not buy it.
If it had been genuinely better than 808, I'd buy it. But as it is now, pass.
Maybe Lumia 1025 with better algorithms and 1/1.2 or 1" sensor.

Windows Phone is a mess right now. Chat feature never works properly and messages flood in when you log out,You Tube access is hampered cos of Google messing about and pulling the plug on apps accessing it. Gmail is also poorly supported,What's App is still buggy,IE10 still doesn't support photo uploads and never saves passwords, the camera app is very limited if it's not a Nokia,MS never respond to OS issues and are slow updating. Generally it's no longer the OS i once really loved. It's so so slow at improving nothing is changing with the OS at a fast enough pace to keep up.

Windows Phone is growing though going by sales and reports so hopefully more and more people and developers will jump on the bandwagon.
It takes time, it took along time for android to topple iOS, WP should get there within the next year or two and then get bigger and bigger.
Some things about WP I really like but the top apps like Ebay, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter etc are total garbage on Windows Phone, they don't do half of the functions that the iOS and android versions do and this really does need sorting, along with a lot of other things otherwise Nokia and Microsoft are finished.
I've just got my 920 but I think I'm gonna get the 1020 within the next 2 months so I really hope WP gets better.

Yeah but HTC the news with them is they might be abandoning WP,Samsung are in it half heartedly,LG dropped out too and Huawei have made one WP8 device. Nokia will be on it's own at this rate. Sony won't join WP cos of Xbox and Playstation rivalry.

It seems that Microsoft themselves don't take Windows Phone seriously, they are moving at a snail's pace, they are very quiet about it, that does not inspire confidence.
So naturally third parties won't bother. Developing an application takes a lot of time and resources, WP has a tiny marketshare, and considering how many partners in the industry Microsoft has bullied in the past and mistreated, it's not surprise that no one is doing them favours by developing applications for them. Apple has a very powerful following and even when they were down, their supporters stood by them, Microsoft does not have this privilege, their strength was in them positioning themselves in such a way that it was not possible to avoid them. Now when people have other options, they go there.
And the bottom line is that, if you think about it: iOS and Android, are more mature, have much more functionality, even iOS is more open than WP, which is extremely restricted, they have much more applications AND they are progressing faster. So if you spending money, where will you go?
Nokia on their part, while their designs are great, IMO, they dropped the ball with cameras. Lumia 1020 is not a successor to 808 it should've been, it's neither fish nor fowl, it's neither a slim device, nor is it the best cameraphone(808 is) with the biggest/best sensor. It also seems that Nokia was unsuccessful in porting Symbian's imaging algorithms to Windows Phone, because all their WP cameras take very mediocre pictures. And while the iPhone and Galaxy S are moving towards more natural and realistic looking images, Nokia is moving the other way. They are chasing trends instead of setting them like they did before with the N95, N86, N8, 808.
As I stated before, I would've bought 1020 if it was really better than 808. But a superb camera is literally the only thing that can sell me a WP. And Nokia knows this very well, that's why they are advertising cameras over and over, what else can they offer? Nothing really.
