I agree with you. if I had to choose between the S700 and the SO505is I would go for the last one. There's something about the S0505is which I can't describe. Maybe it's the colors they come in (I love the white one).
Maybe SE should release additional colors besides silver.

I think that the Japanese are more open to new different thinks. Because of that they make some of the craziest things. Here in Europe, like you said, we're more conservative. Why change something if it's succesful (which isn't always bad).
I do think you can see some of the Japanese influences on today's SE (European) models. The crazy stuff from Japan would only be appriciated by a few people. SE is a business and wants to make a profit. You don't make a profit if only a few people buy your products.

says is true) would be so much better to do with a scroller rather than a directional pad. but no jog dial please. I switch hands a lot when using my phone and I don't find switching hands with a jog dial easy.

I am gonna get it anyway unless some1 comes with same features at a smaller price. The price tag is very important.
