why?
because SE is not big enough to go it alone. Even Samsung is going with Series60 on GSM phone.
I'm not saying SE should not pursue its distinctiveness but it should do it more prudently. It is quite unlikely (given the current scenario) that UIQ3 would make any significant impact over Series60.
Maybe SE just think it can hv a niche market with UIQ3 but I don't see what UIQ3 have over Series60 to indicate that. Also, dont forget SE is only licensing UIQ3 from symbian. If it is entire SE own product (like Apple OS is to Apple) then it would make slightly more sense.

I see no evidence to suggest that SE cannot succeed in making UIQ3 a success. Conformity isn't necessarily a good thing, using UIQ3 might very well give SE a very distinct selling angle and will hopefully allow them to introduce some very smart mobiles indeed.

It is the same sharp edge of the sword for SE. Nokia gains no matter SE licenses Series60 or UIQ3. Even if UIQ3 takes off like a rocket, Nokia can easily makes Series60 compatible with UIQ3 (application wise). imo, no matter what, SE cannot gain a lot mileage out of UIQ3.

Your point being? That Nokia will deliberately try to scupper UIQ3? Thi would seem a rather silly move if they actually have a vested interest in seeing Symbian prosper; a successful UIQ3 would help Symbian, which in turn would benefit Nokia.

Again, what is your point? A successful implementation of UIQ3 would no doubt mean that Nokia would make Series 60 compatible with UIQ3, furthering reinforcing UIQ3's position, benefiting both SE and Nokia. If on the othe rhand one follows your logic of SE not getting 'a lot of mileage out of UIQ3' because of Nokia's position with Symbian, then it would also seem logical that SE would be in the same position i they do what yous uggest and adopt Series 60.
I believe you are making an error, an error in assuming that Nokia and SE will not both want to see UIQ3 succeed, if it does the both companies gain a great deal of benefit. If SE is using a seperate platform to Nokia then it means that Nokia have one less competitor to worry about in that particular field, whilst reaping the economic benefits of that alternative platform.

i think Nokia has already made its displeasure known wrt to Symbian going ahead with UIQ3. It's anyone guess whether the delay in UIQ3 has something to do with this.
It is understandable as UIQ3 will fragment the Symbian platform even more. I think Nokia is more concern about Microsoft making inroads instead of the threat posed by SE with UIQ3.
