Sony decided to delay XZP 2 months, but still going to ship the phone without Defocus and Monochrome shots.
How is that possible?

It's easily possible because they're trying to push out the new camera package before the software is fully ready. I suppose they originally expected it to be completed and ready to go for a MWC announcement and a launch shortly after, but something must've caused the delay.

On the whole though, those are only 2 relatively minor aspects of the camera so I don't think it'll be that bad.

The next sensor for the new Xperia "might" come with larger DRAM stacked on it. 2Gb to be precise.
And no, you cant add more memory to it due to technology limitation. Samsung now using its largest 2Gb DRAM (keep in mind that Samsung right now is one of the world largest semi designer and fab also) for S9 and not even bother to sell it to Sony Semicon, keep it exclusive for Samsung EM only. So now Sony Semicon negotiation with SK Hynix (No Micron, as they cant even produce 2Gb module yet) to buy its 2Gb module currently under low-rate production (coz its hard to produce in large enough quantity).
U can expect 2x longer slowmo time and some interesting camera features if Sony Semicon could buy larger memory module for its stacked sensor.
Hint: Fusion of both sensors data for slowmo 960fps. Right now slowmo 960fps on XZ2P only use main IMX400 sensor.

Can someone tell me the reason for the latest xperia phones being too heavy and thick..

Well the internals are somewhat the same as other manufacturers right..

I have been seeing this trend from xz to be precise
Even after reduction in battery and with same internals it was heavier than the previous flagships...

After the introduction of ambient flow things have gone even worse now..

Is there any reason for this trend

Unfortunately Im not the engineer at the drawing board for Xperia phones but I can explain something.

Due to curved nature of the back, there are gaps inside that left unused. This is normal, boxy shape has better space utilization that round/curvy shape. Like packing a box, u could pack same internal volume in a smaller boxy shape than round box one.

Glass is heavy, and also due to curved nature of the back, need more surface area to cover than flat one.

My nature language isnt English, so pardon me if I used wrong terms for it...

Oh, and the glass back of XZ2 and XZ2P are very thick, making them more durable, but also making the phones themselves thicker and heavier.

I am not an expert in Sony phones but do you guys really think a new phone will be announced in September after the XZ premium 2 has only become available in July ? Personally I don't think so especially not a high end .

Keep in mind the XZ2p was supposed to be announced at mwc and probably on the market by now. That would have given it a several month time span before the new phone would be announced.

There was another fcc id not long ago.
Too early for a IFA phone.
I dont think a XA2+ would be good idea. If they have plans to make it.
Because 5.5" is just a bit bigger than 5.2.
5.7 is very close to 6.

I thought the same and then compared the XZ2 to the lastest apple phones, they are on the heavy side too, with smaller batteries (8plus?)
