It's easy to forget that the iPhone has actually changed considerably during the couple of years it's existed, which partly explains some of the changing attitudes towards it. I "bashed" the original iPhone mostly because it was being touted as a powerful smartphone, and challenger to Windows Mobile and Symbian etc, when in reality it was a completely closed OS - essentially a featurephone, only without even Java support to enliven it. It's hard to believe now that for the first year of its existence, there was literally no official way to install any form of additional app or software - it had the features and functions that Apple announced early in 2007, and that was that, unless you risked jailbreaking (and it was a while before even that was possible, or particularly easy to do).

It was the announcement of the Appstore early last year that changed everything. That's the point where the iPhone matured, when it combined that nice UI and glossiness with some proper smartphone smarts. I've no regrets over passing on the original iPhone, but I'm still very glad I picked up the 3G last year.

Sounds like something taken from The Invasion.
I agree with you. An iPod with a phone was my standard argument against the iPhone - until I tried it myself. Now a proud owner of an 3GS 32 GB

Maybe we should convince laffen to add an iPhone avatar...?

Antonio
The first two incarnations were not worth touching with a 50ft bargepole, the 3G S is well worth a look though, as is a 3G with the new FW on

The 3G was the best smartphone on the market when it came out, and is second only to the 3G S now, IMHO. It's just gotten better with age.

Just wondering if anyone has used a dual sim with either the 3G or 3G S. I have just bought a 3G and hoping to get rid of the work phone. Don't suppose there is one that allows either sim to take calls, receive messages and just chose which one to make calls from?

I know I am asking about the 3G but I am guessing this will be getting more exposure and most people will have an idea anyway.

Thanks
