Wow - thanks for the info everyone. This is pretty amazing for me. I was about to switch to an orange contract but I reckon I might just stay on o2 for the free GPRS! At least for the duration of the summer whn I'll be on the road a lot.

Here are my settings for S700i:

Data Accounts:
-Accnt name: O2 Free GPRS
-Conn. type: GPRS
-user name: payandgo
-password: password
-APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
-Allow calls: auto
-IP addr.: (blank)
-DNS addr.: (blank)
-Authentication: normal
-Data compression: on
-Header compression: off

Internet profiles:
-Name: O2 Free GPRS
-Connect using: O2 Free GPRS
-Internet mode: HTTP
-Use Proxy: Yes
-IP addr.: 193.113.200.195
-Port no.: 8080
-user name: (blank)
-password: (blank)

note some of these settings are probably irrelevant (e.g. compression) but I have included them for completeness.

I come form an open source programming background so I find it strange when people say that something is not possible. Sure it's possible. You just need somebody to write the software for it! I think the fact that mobile technology moves so fast is actually harmful to us as users. It means people are not willing to put time and effort into developing solutions to the problems of a platform which will probably be obsolete in a few months.

Anyway I'm gonna try to sort out some kind of proxy tunneling thing for checking emails and eating cookies. Does anyone know of any open source email/browser midlets I could use as a starting point?

--Note on edit: forgot to specify port 8080!--
