In response to Timmmmy's posting, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony Ericsson did launch a replacement for the P990 within a year (although I have no evidence to support such a claim).
I remember when Acorn Computers (RIP) launched the BBC B+ series back in September/October 1984, how great they were and how much more memory they had over the BBC B series.
By the February of 1985 the BBC Master series was launched, making the BBC B+ redundant as the software guys wrote apps and games that took advantage of the Master series.
Sony Ericsson will want to sell lots of P990's but you'd have to be naieve to think there's not a replacement model being worked upon and remember, the replacement will be an evolution on the design and not a revolution.
The P990 will be used to iron out the bugs, design flaws and work towards a replacement that will work much more smoothly.
I'd be surprised if it's replacement was 6 months away, but it depends upon the competition.
Remember, the Nokia E61 is in direct competition and is in general availability now. If Nokia bump up the spec on their device, Sony Ericsson may be forced to follow suit.

Hi,
I have just checked with Phones2UDirect and their website is showing that they have the phone in stock. I called their customer service number to check this and apparently they had some in but they were recalled because of an unknown reason. However, the guy I spoke to confirmed that they are definately getting a very large order in tomorrow.
Has anyone placed an order with this company or been told the same thing? It's just that he seemed adament that they were definately coming in tomorrow but I find it hard to believe that they are getting the phones tomorrow yet no other companies know the date of release.

Firstly - you've done really well to speak to someone there! I am on the phone to them now (and have been trying to get through since 12pm!)
I ordered mine with these yesterday and they have promised me they are getting a delivery thursday or friday for definite (sounds like friday now after your call)...i'm just trying to get through to have my pre-order confirmed! Plus they are cheaper than expansys!!!

Before i read the updated info in the expansys forum, I spoke to a guy at Expansys about 10mins ago asking what was meant by pre launch stock...he had no idea what i was talking about and was actually bloody rude! He kept saying, well obviously that is the stock that is being sent out to the people who have made a pre-order. I told him that i dont think he understands what i meant, and that on their forum there is a discussion about there being a possibly difference between a pre-launch stock, of which he said under his breath 'so stupid', and then continued to say out loud, there is no difference whatsoever been the pre launch stock and the UK version!

Its a shame that they dont read their own forum, or are not updated about their own stock!
Fantatic customer service Expansys...
Xpansys like most telesales operations pay their telephone sales guys peanuts and we all know what you get if pay peanuts! So I am not very surprised that he is not very knowledgeable,
I am now certain that my view is correct, until we start to see the first phones being offered direct from the networks retail units (these will have most likely have been FULLY tested on the UK networks and should have the latest firmware installed until then people will just be buying a very expensive problem it’s a shame as customers should get what is advertised and what they have paid for, I really want a P990 but I am not desperate enough to let desire get the better of logic.
If you spent £500 on a camera and it did not do what what it said on the box it would go straight back and most likely we would go and buy another brand, but its unlikely to happen as those products are tested to work before they are put up for retail sale, the camera manufacturers would not risk their reputation in the same way mobile phone companies seem to do.

Same here, although phones2udirect seem to have a pretty good price, a few £'s cheaper than mphone lol.
But cancelled my order with expansys, they arent even entertaining the thought of price-matching with mphone as they reckon they will be the first to get stock. But having spoken to someone at mphone, they are adamant that they are getting stock in tommorrow and the phone should be with me by monday latest they say.
/me goes off to place his order with mphone.

LOL. Wonder how many orders have been cancelled at Expansys and moved to mphone or others in the last few hours.
Expansys must be wondering what on earth has hit them.
