The new Sony JPEG engine (from A7 and A7r) seems very good. Is the JPEG engine resides on the BIONZ X processor ? Any possibilities to have the same JPEG engine on Z1 ?

according to ZOMG, he saw the preview build of 4.3 update which comes with another big Camera update, new jpeg compress now offers 50% as oppose to the current 80%, but pic will be twice as large. It suppose to have 3 more, normal, fine and super fine and this update is for Z1, ZU, ZL and Z.

@Lemmy31 I haven't had the problems your having mate, only one reboot and that was on the older firmware, are you sure it's not a dodgy app?
Have you tried a factory reset?
How about a complete repair install of your firmware via PCC or SUS?
I have to agree with most here that my Z1 is the most complete phone I've had so far but I do agree that the camera is not as good as the 1020 but here hoping that the rumoured 4.3 update will grately improve it, we'll just have to wait and see I suppose.
On a side note all the problems your describing on your Z1 I had with my previous phone and that was a Lumia 920 but I bought that from EE and it was locked to them.

Hi Del
I did a clean install when I upgraded via SUS and I did a reset last night. Ive taken a couple of shots this morning and I have to say I prefer the earlier firmware. Thinking of flashing back today.
I had a Lumia 920 from EE and had no problems at all.....strange isn't it.
Ive also noticed that I am getting a lot of flash light bleed on the right side of any photos taken in really low light. Have you had any problems like this ? It doesn't happen on close shots just longish distance. I have tried cleaning the lens and flash areas but no difference.
I cant believe ive got this for two years, it has to improve

I had a brief issue when the previous Walkman app updated whereby the music would stop playing when I went to full volume. The issue was gone after clearing the cache in Walkman. Some are just unlucky and get a bad unit like Del had a terrible Lumia 920 which was in repair 3 times within first month of ownership. As I see it the camera takes great photos just not as good as 1020. In good light with tweaked settings you can get cracking shots. The flash bleed is I'd say a slight design mistake where it's too close to the lens but I don't see why you'd need the flash at such a distance anyway. Nokia is also one to produce not so good cameras with many of their Lumia line up having very noisy images with a very oil painting look to the photos at close inspection with exception of 1020. I see the Sony as way better than many of them except 1020 and I also think many people expect too much from such small sensors anyway. You've seen my pics and it can produce great images with a little bit of side blurring but even the 1020 does to some extent. My screen is also fine and whatever your used to your eyes eventually adjust to a different screen. Had zero reboots and no performance issues at all.

Thanks for that Sean
Im not trying to knock the XZ1 against Nokia at all. Im aware that all handsets have their faults, like you say maybe im unlucky with this unit. Its still a great handset, well built and very smooth to use.
You are correct about not using flash in those circumstances, but it still shouldn't bleed into the picture, design fault or not.
Anyway im going to flash back to the previous firmware at work today and stay with that until the release. I can see no improvement at all to the camera. Ive just had a look at your night shots taken in your street, pre and post update and I have to say that I prefer the earlier shots.
Thanks to all for the advice given

Hi Lemmy, I haven't really tried many low light shots with the flash but I will tonight to see if there is any flash bleed.
And it is strange how some people get the odd handset that does have loads of problem's, is there any chance of you being able to take it back and change it for another one?
But here's a quick shot I took on superior auto while walking my dog just now which I think is pretty good considering it came from a phone.
And one last night at sunset, again on superior auto.

I've read some comments on different forums about the reboot thing, but it is only a handful. Have experienced one freeze after a couple of day's but that was still with the initial firmware. Have done all updates since and no problems whatsoever with it.

Hi, to all Z1 users: Are you using Image Stabilization for still pictures?. Do you see a difference when on/off besides shutter speed?.
@Bono: In your opinion, is this a worthy/advisable upgrade over the Xperia T, camera wise?.
Thank you all.-

Of course, everything is better on the Z1, not just the camera!
