Dare I suggest, just wait and see what kind of b****y screen it comes with?

To be frank I am more interested in what networks will be selling the thing (I am NOT shelling out hundreds of pounds on any more SIM free kit it is not worth it)

So far it seems Vodafraud are the ONLY confirmed takers in the UK clearly have promised them of no more P990 b***s up's (I am not convinced) according to the people I have spoken to this morning T-Mobile have no plans to take it and I like my Flex Plan! None of the other networks I spoke to today had ever heard of the thing!

Found this page today sorry if it's already been posted!
http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/index.aspx?en-gb#/product/9/1/

Looks very much as though the only way to enter data without the key board is the "on screen" keyboard. I like to write with a stylus and thought that would be available as per my P1 but no mention of it here at all and it would be a deal breaker for me.

Oh and by the way the X1 apparently can make phone calls, its the LAST feature shown!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what experience you have with WM, but handwriting recognition is a standard feature of Windows Mobile. It's extremely unlikely that X1 will purposely cripple this function. Infact in WM you have the choice of letter recogniser (for printing more or less as you would on paper), block recogniser (a more brief way) or transcriber (for cursive writing using the whole screen)

Hi I have only ever used Pocket PC in the past on an old IPAQ (was very power hungry) but I have never used Windows Mobile. But why ignore a key selling point like handwriting recognition? I checked the site again no mention of HWR anywhere! so if there is no HWR and as already pertained to by the guy from poor battery life I don't know if this will be any good for me.

Well handwriting recognition is built into windows mobile. And as for why ignoring that as a key selling point, maybe because they don't see it as a key selling point since basically all the WM would have this function and they haven't really done anything special to it. I would be surprised if it doesn't have the functions tho (not that I use it anyway)

Handwriting recognition will definitely feature, it would be pointless for SE to remove it, it's a standard WM feature and always has been (right back to the Pocket PC days). You can change between various different input methods by tapping the centre icon on the bottom of the screen (in the screenshots on the X1 site you'll see this is a little keyboard, this can be changed to a little pen for handwriting, or various other hw/on screen keyboard options.

The only surprise with the X1 is that SE haven't added one of the newer Iphone-style bigger keyboards, as seen on newer HTC devices and others - the on screen keyboard shown on the X1 is just a slightly jazzed-up version of the teeny-tiny default WM keyboard, which is only really fit for picking at with the stylus and not finger friendly at all. That doesn't have to be a big problem to be fair, since you can always install third party alternatives (some of which are free), but it does mean that out of the box, one-handed texting is a bit of an impossibility. That might put off a few of the "mainstream" consumers this phone is supposed to be aimed at.

@Nitro, I wouldn't be too concerned about HWR, it almost certainly has that feature. I wouldn't waste your time worrying about that, concentrate on more realistic concerns such as battery life, camera quality etc.

Once it comes out you can double check the HWR issue. If you like, when it comes out if it doesn't have HWR, I'll start a thread called "I am not as smart as a 5th grader"

@boing, actually the "jazzed up" version of the keyboard is the new look keyboard for WM 6.0 (my samsung has the same keyboard) EDIT: okay maybe the emulator thing - I use realvga on my samsung, maybe that's why I get that keyboard.

I agree it's surprising that SE didn't see fit to add an iphone-esque onscreen keyboard. That link of nitro's - when she presses the keyboard with her finger is COMPLETELY unrealistic

I HATE marketing spin with a vengence. I never place any store whatsoever in such marketing campaigns.
