The only surprise with the X1 is that SE have added a more snazzy, Iphone-like bigger keyboard, as seen on newer HTC devices and others, which are a bit more finger friendly - the screen keyboard shown on the X1 is just a slightly jazzed version of the same teeny-tiny default WM keyboard, which is only really fit for picking at with the stylus. That doesn't have to be a big problem to be fair though, since you can always install third party alternatives (some of which are free).
Well it is because it is actually a default WM keyboard
For example when using a WM emulator with a VGA screen, those keyboard will be shown instead of the ones used for screen resolutions of 240x320.

Sorry, I meant to say they haven't added a bigger keyboard... I've edited my post above to make more sense!
@max - sorry, I thought SE had "jazzed" it up as the same keyboard on my Tytn II (running 6.1) is much plainer, but that's probably just because it's only QVGA.

nah sorry what I meant is, you will see those kind of keyboard on the larger size resolution WM such as 480 x640, and I believe 320x320 (you have the samsung i780 right?) .
I mentioned about the emulator because I have never used a device with resolution of larger than 240x320 other than when using an Windows Mobile emulator in Windows

Mabye a bit early since the phone hasnt been released yet, but when using the musicplayer and since it's a windows mobileplayer, how do you get the album art to show up on the phones music layout when playing music?
So how do we get the album art to pop up in the media player? When I had the Sony Ericsson P1i i had to put the album cover in the same folder as the music to get it up, but I dont think it's the same way in windows mobile. Anybody know how to? Or someone who has for example the HTC Diamond - and how do you get the album art up on that one?
Please leave your reply if you know

recent SE phones, atleast A200 phones, and I think the W960 (but not sure), use a newer version of the mediaplayer that displays embedded album art (album art stored in the music file itself). If the song has embedded album art then you don't need to do anything, it just appears automatically.
I would be quite surprised if the X1 doesn't also support embedded album art.
Or you could just use a third party player that does support album art.

The best way (IMO) of getting music onto a Windows Mobile phone is to use Windows Media Player on the PC to organise your music, and sync with the storage card of your WM device over USB - this is simple to do, and Windows Media will generally download any album art automatically and transfer this to the phone. I think the album art is embedded in the MP3s or other files you create - personally I have my Windows Media set to encode MP3s only for maximum compatibility, by default it encodes rubbish WMA (which obviously your WM device can also play).
On the device itself things are slightly more complicated. Most WM devices have two different music players - a mobile version of Windows Media (which comes as part of Windows Mobile and is included on all WM phones), and a propietary player provided by the manufacturer - for instance HTC's Audio Manager, or SE's "media panel" you can see in some of the X1 screenshots. The reason there's always two is simple - the standard Windows Media player is
awful. It's difficult to use with a really unintuitive interface, and generally not very well integrated into the phone at all. The only good thing about it is that it does album art perfectly, whereas the album art qualities of the propietary software (which is usually much better generally) can vary. The HTC Audio Manager on my Tytn II doesn't do album art at all, for instance, while the newer version in TouchFlo 3D does. Either way, it will usually do whatever it does in full compatibility with Windows Media (since that's the Windows Mobile way) so I'd expect that if the SE app on the X1 does support album art at all, it will support the same Windows Media format.

actually I'm willing to extend my offer of starting a "I am not as smart as a 5th grader" thread to the issue of album art: if X1 does not support album art in mp3's via the SE Media Player application (which on appearances is a clone of that found in A200 phones)
So feel free to remind me if it does not.
@mortengutt, don't bother with Windows Media Player, as boinng says, it's
awful

@Nitro, I wouldn't be too concerned about HWR, it almost certainly has that feature. I wouldn't waste your time worrying about that, concentrate on more realistic concerns such as battery life, camera quality etc.
Once it comes out you can double check the HWR issue. If you like, when it comes out if it doesn't have HWR, I'll start a thread called "I am not as smart as a 5th grader"
@boing, actually the "jazzed up" version of the keyboard is the new look keyboard for WM 6.0 (my samsung has the same keyboard) EDIT: okay maybe the emulator thing - I use realvga on my samsung, maybe that's why I get that keyboard.
I agree it's surprising that SE didn't see fit to add an iphone-esque onscreen keyboard. That link of nitro's - when she presses the keyboard with her finger is COMPLETELY unrealistic
I HATE marketing spin with a vengence. I never place any store whatsoever in such marketing campaigns.

Realistic concerns? well I see this as a realistic concern
as for camera quality
It will be the same crap as all camera phones, The key element in any camera is the lens and most camera phones lens's are dog pooh if you want a camera buy a camera not a phone!

Well, the earlier protos had a dedicated switch to change the orientation but it was inactive. It was in line of the mini usb port. It was said to get activated in the final hardware. And now in the pic, that switch is not present. Check the first page of this forum for the older pic with the orientation switch.
AFAIK, that switch never did anything. It certainly would have been redundant to have that switch, when opening the keyboard did the same exact thing.
They should have kept it and made it a 'free' soft key.
Or you could switch to landscape without sliding the keyboard.

Right... serious question now...
Whats the likelyhood that we will see Blackberry Connect support for it?
My boss has said that its gotta use BB otherwise its a no no as the Active Sync users in the company are costing way to much!
BB Connect on WM6.1?
