Im back...

And for the latest news, the XZ2 Premium variant SOV38 of au KDDI maybe not released and cut back due to problems with XZ2P meeting the schedule...But this can be changed if SoMC can resolve the problems faster than it anticipated...

SoMC has 2 weeks to go, and I really doubt that they will make it. I really have doubts that they can deliver XZ2P by summer either.

Some info say June/july, some May...

Months ago we were talking about a device which design would remind LG G4/G3.
What happened to it?

I have learned a nice trick...
Other OEMs use 12MP because it is easier to hide noise after cropping.
If you resize them to 20MP, they will be crap.
Then I performed a few tests. Photos taken at 20.7MP resized to 5 or 6MP on my 💻.
They look way better, pretty hard to see noise.
Software has never been as bad as many believe.

If you guys have any friend or family member with non-Sony flagship, asl for photos and turn them to 19 or 23MP.
I doubt they will look as good as they are at 12.

They need to cut the crap. Everything apart from the XZ series are a pointless anchor that's weighing the division down. They should just get rid of all the low-mid-upper-mid rubbish and divert all R&D to the high end. Make sure its profitable and then there you go.
Also ditch this shitty as f**k naming system. Have a simple, clean smartphone portfolio that people can nice understand.

E, C, M and Z ..
Much easier.

They could try at least one year just bring flagships as an experience.
To see if it is better choice.

Something like : flagship standard ( 5.3") , flagship ultra ( 6") and flagship premium ( 5.7") .
Of course all 16:9. Big batteries bring costumers.
3540 mAh for Standard, 5500 for Ultra e 4200 for Premium.

I bet that Energizer branded phone will sell expected because its 16000mAh.
I am itching to see how long it takes to charge.

I agree they should cut low-end devices.
However I don't agree about selling only flagships.

What is missing is successor of X Compact, meaning smaller middl-end device. Not everyone need flagship, but a lot people need smaller device. And right now, excluding X Compact, there are only 3 - iP SE, XZ1c and XZ2c. All not too cheap...

X Perf and XZ had better sales than X / X Compact.
Difference in Japan was even bigger.

Most of devices with 650, 652, 653 and 660 faced tough competions against the flagships of previous year.
Phones powered by Qualcomm 808, 810, 820 , 821, 835 and their Exynos equivalent.
Except the way better selfie and capless usb there was no other advantage of M5 over Z3.

When I got my phone, here Z2, Z3, Z3+ and M5 were all almost same price.

Other super midranges failed too like X, X Compact , LG G5 SE, Samsung A9.
They could not compete against Z5/Z4, G4/V10 and Note 5/ S6 Edge+.

Most of S660 phones are flagships of Oppo or Vivo.

Sony can't compete at the low-end. They can't match the loss-leading prices of Samsung and Chinese manufacturers.
If you want a cheaper phone, don't buy Xperia. Sony should absolutely be taking the Apple approach on this. Xperia should be a brand synonymous with quality and not a commodity brand.
Simple.

Proposed strategy: Start from scratch.

Xperia
Xperia - (minus)
Xperia + (Plus)

Same fundamental phone, three different sizes; small, medium and large. Xperia replaces the XZ line as the principle flagship. The Xperia - replaces the XZ Compact, and the Xperia + replaces the XZ Premium. All three have the same fundamental features.
Try to create as small a difference between each device as is physically possible. People shouldn't feel like they're missing out cause they prefer a smaller phone.

You can change the names so that they sound better, but that is the simplest and easiest to understand system I could think of off the top of my head.

No midrange, no lowrange, no selfie specialist. None of this pointless bullshit. These 3 phones are it, they offer best in class everything. No compromises.

When the Xperia 2+/- come out next year, the old Xperias become the mid-range. When the Xperia 3+/- come out, the Xperia 2s become midrange and Xperia 1s become low range.
Support all three devices for 3 years minimum.

Because there is now a smaller product portfolio, they can tighten and focus R&D budget across just 3 phones every year, instead of across 15 different (and mostly shitty) phones. Its much easier to fully support these devices as only 12 are ever in need of support at any given year, verses the dozens that currently are in need of support.
Updates can be pushed out to all devices much more easily.
