The answer would be: version 5.3, the one that you are looking for. I took 300+ pictures with it in every possible condition (nightmode on/off, lamp on/off, macro on/off and all possible combinations of those modes). I noticed a big improvement versus the previous version (4.5, I think), but a noticeable decrease in video quality.

Well gxg, going by your standards, e man and aksd should have been angrier than you because they might have spent more time studying and creating such wonderful mods. I believe intelligence needs to be respected regardless of geography and unlike “Russia, India and Romania” (to quote gxg from one of his earlier posts). Also, you are a racist of the first rate. To quote you - “No wonder that so many stupid Americans died in the 9-11”. Now wasn’t that off topic. However, suddenly you are the protector of this topic!! You sure change your mask fast.

As far as I am concerned, I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel. I sure can mod myself (I don’t really have to tell you who I am and what I can do with algorithms and assembly), but what’s the point when a saturation has already been reached. Does it make any sense to reach a situation – like in this thread 2.441 and 3.1 had reached at one point– equivalent quality/features. And at what cost,,,50-100 more pages. You sure go ahead with you modding. No one stops you.

My point solely was to make you aware that a forum is a public place where experts and newbies have equal rights to visit and post their comments. Try and stop that IF YOU CAN (only a dictator would do that and not a person who has democratic sensibilities). Also, it is a PUBLIC place where decorum and mutual respect for all is greatly appreciated. You come across as a haughty and “in your face” person. How do you expect people to have confidence in your work which (who knows) also suffers from your mood swings? Perhaps your work is not an honest result of what people can see in aksd and e man’s. Both of them are experts and I guess the most loved/respected people here. Know why? (Hint: Not only because of their excellent work; their modesty perhaps). e-erzan even made a custom driver for toryxx (if I remember correctly) who perhaps was not adept to do it himself/herself. Can you appreciate this conglomeration of expert/newbie? I know one thing for sure – This forum IS NOT and was NEVER meant to be a place - ONLY for modders.

Don’t even bother to reply to above as, I am not going to return back to read it. I have read each page of this forum very intently and I have got what I wanted. I don’t think I can further this cause in any useful way except congratulate all the people (modders/testers/feedback posters) for their excellent contribution. Perhaps I jumped in a little late here to make a difference.

Regarding the topic itself, I agree with aksd’s last post completely. I have been a photographer by hobby for since more than a decade. I own many different cameras including w800i. According to me – a camera (and of course its driver) is as good as a person’s understanding of his/her machine. There will never be a driver that is ideal for every situation we intend to click a photograph in. For me, I demand only 3 different things from my machine:

1) Clarity/Sharpness/Focus (all the same)
2) Reasonable color reproduction
3) Reasonable contrast.

When you have the three above – believe me digital photography really becomes an art from thereon (BTW, I really believe the end motive of this forum is to have great photographs and not boast to our friends – my phone is the greatest. On second thoughts, it actually won’t harm to do that a little bit ). Beauty of digital photography is that you can touch the images and make it what you really wanted it to be (I consider photo touching as an art unless it is a photo for some kind of evidence). Unlike film photography where it is mighty difficult and most of the time you are stuck with what you shot. With film cameras, shooting itself was the greatest art and the domain of only a few (also damn costly).

I consider myself to be a competent photographer and I have a professional Canon EOS. Believe me I still find myself touching the pictures clicked by it in terms of curves, color balance, contrast, noise reduction and even optical deformity in case of high zoom levels. This w800i is a toy and to my greatest joy I found 2.441 made by aksd for it. It satisfies all the base quality that I demand from my machine and I don’t have to look further. I can now really concentrate on my art rather than facilitating that art.

So goodbye guys. Hope we meet sometime,,,,someplace else,,,, in another forum, where I hope I will join at the right time.

I tested the latest 7.30 from gxg in indoor conditions, with lighting from ordinary lightbulbs (5*60W). Pictures have true colours; sharpness and contrast are also good; there is little noise and overexposure (less than previous versions, I think). I don't have any problems when switching to video and I don't get darker pictures (w800i r1bc002 running on k750 with lots of patches).
There is, though, one problem - pictures are very often out of focus and blurry; I think that's because of the slow exposition time and, of course, my shaky hands. But, after all, we'll not be using the driver in lab conditions with perfect light and dead still tripod. I will try to take some landscape pics tomorrow.

P.S. I'm not posting example pictures, because there's nothing much to show. Let's just say, from 30 pictures, I get only 10 focused pictures and I'm not shooting moving objects.

P.S.2
gxg, nice work man. if you could make it a bit faster, that would be near perfect.

Yes, indeed it is the very genuine original I saved as my first task during my first FAR session.
