Yesterday I decided to make my definitive comparison between three camdrivers;

the original SE version 5.3, only the JPEG quality values maximized (Fine 85% -> 95%, Normal 75% > 93%, Flash 50% -> 85%)
ver30.1 with edited bits, posted by e_erzan (page 261)
v7.30 fixed by gxg, posted by smuko (page 265)

Because I'm the only tester who can re-do the comparison with the very exact same conditions, concerning camera-to-test subject position, light enviroment, I have to process systematically - the only way.

Three exposures using the same settings to see focusing failures etc. Night mode "ON" on all because the environment, a room lit by single 60W lightbulb.

Picture quality on "Fine"
Picture quality on "Normal" (to see difference in visual quality and file size)

Personally I would never use the "Normal" quality.

White balance on "Auto" (because this would be default choice)
White balance on "Incandescent" (because this would be the natural choice, household lightbulb = ~incandescent)
White balance on "Fluorescent" (because some modders have opted for it)

My testing take place on light level high enough for proper exposure without additional light, but also so dark that the MXE-60 will fire.

No additional light
LED light "ON"
MXE-60 connected, on "Auto"

If needed I would use compensation in order to be able to define the differencies between samples taken with different camdriver versions.

Exposure compensation (brightness adjustment) -0.3
Exposure compensation (brightness adjustment) -0.7 (or even less)
Exposure compensation (brightness adjustment) +0.3
Exposure compensation (brightness adjustment) +0.7 (or even more)

As I started yesterday with 7.30fixed I faced so many failures I had to make notes on paper. I re-started with the original and went on with ver30.1. I also created another still life looking like this:

http://www.ImageShack.us" />

Today I tested v7.30fixed again only to experience several failures: of the 21 photos taken only 12 got captured because the camera view went suddenly back to Main menu! My notes can tell this happened when I selected Exposure compensation -/+0.7 and when I had MXE-60 connected.

How many of you satisfied with v7.30 have used exposure compensation? Please try out and experience, would your camera fail too?

So I will skip v7.30fixed I leave it out as long there are other versions. My K750 fell yesterday twice on the floor, 125cm, as my tripod claw slipped it (=my fault). Twice I heard strange "BIZZZ" sound during the photo taking, something alike the lightbulb sounds just before it breaks down and goes black. I was really scared; am I about to destroy my K750 because of this testing? Is this worth it??

EDIT:

Unfortunately I don't have time right now to upload the succesfull samples. Sorry!

@ToryXX, The new still life sample was taken with "maximized" SE original 5.3, the changes vs original being told in my text.

More about all this later... Sorry!
