the Nano has a colour screen and is half the weight of the HD5 but.....
iPod Nano
90 x 40 x 7 mm
Sony HD5
90 x 56 x 14 mm
Twice as thick yet roughly the same size!!
Yet the Sony has a 20Gb HDD and the Nano only has up to 2Gb
Then theres the battery life. Sony has put up to 40 hours into theirs
So really theres still no competition to me.
Well, the nano can actually hold up to 4gb. And yes the HD5 is heavier....
BUT also a very important point that no one has mentioned:
REPLACEABLE BATTERY!!! Whenever you need a new one you don't have to send in your unit and pay 100-150$ !! (talk about a rip-off)
With the sony you just buy a new battery, slide the door cover, and replace it yourself!
I would definitely take that into consideration.
(but yes, I know, the color screen of the nano is just lovely...

Most people don't need to take this into consideration as most won't have the player for long enough for this to be a consideration, also the fee is $29 for a battery which you fit yourself, or $60 for Apple to do it. Where did you get this ridiculous figure of $150 from?. It's the charge for the UK service (£86.29) that is the rip off, not the US charges.
How much does Sony charge for a new battery?. Did you know Sony latest range of HDD players has ditched the removable battery?, they've gone the ipod route.

Well, how much is £86.29 in dollars?.... that's exactly what I was talking about, in some markets -and you should know not everyone is in the US- is around that price, but after some research on the internet, yes. it can actually be found in the US for around $60 plus shipping if you want them to do it. My bad!!
Anyway, why do you say people won't owe them long enough to take that into consideration??
I've read in the forums a lot people not buying an Ipod again because of that.
It depends on your needs and point of view, but I don't really see a $250+ electronic as a disposable thing that after a year and half you just throw away.... that doesn't make sense.
And the sony HD5 in particular HAS a removable battery. And that was one of the reasons to be given the editor's choice thing on cnet. According to them is the best MP3 player.

I would have gone for the HD1 or HD3 (don't like the design of the 5 model) but they have no bookmarking for mp3's or smart playlists, plus you have to deal with sonic stage, I would have loved a 30hr battery too, bloody useful.
Well you would hardly throw it away would you lol, you would put it on ebay, I flog my old models to my brother then it's not much to splash out on a new model every couple of years, or in my case every six months. For example I sold him my 4G for £80, then I just needed to find £100 for my nano.

i have had my k750 for quite sometime now, used to have a gig msdp, then, got to have a HP ipaq, tried swapping my msd to a 2gig sd card, and i ain't goin back to my k750 as my mp3 player, just is so slow and the GUI is so awkward (very hard to browse songs), and the HPM 70 i've bought just takes too much visual weight when people see it... left my k750 as a 2mpix cam + fone, and got my PDA as a receiver/mp3 player, well, i'd sell out my PDA for that nano, think it's worth it... and seconding d motion, Arez is right, the guy that said that k750 takes borderline pix never had an idea of how to take shots.. Unless of course u'd compare the k750 over SLRs/4mpx+cams.
