Here's a comparision of pics taken by the 2 drivers...
The spot photometry comes to play in a big way in the hybrid driver, causing variations in the exposure values, especially in indoor situations, and also in outdoors, though not as noticably.
That apart, there seems to be a slight increase in sharpness in Aks's driver, but it causes the camera to crash while shooting high-detail images like heavy foliage etc in the fine mode.

There also seems to be a big difference in the white balance between the two drivers. While the "tweaked" driver gives a vibrant, warm shade, the "hybrid" driver causes a cold, bluish tint to the images.

Here are some comparisions.

Wonder what's the maximum potential of this.

And why isn't SE giving all it's best?

I believe we are already very close to the maximum we can get. We have already achieved 95% compression in jpeg. Any further changes in quality causes camera to crash.
SE doesn;t wan't to take chances with crashing cameras and that's why it gives us higher compressions. Also, a 2mpx pic @ 300-400 KB is more than acceptable to an average user. Why waste space with 600-700 KB photos?

And as fas as vid-rec goes, it's been proven that we can't cross 13 FPS, so we are already at the maxx.

Hope someone proves me wrong.....

yes!!!! i was about to ask that one... im too occupied lookin this and lookin that and yet everyone fails to point the best camdriver so far... of course except those default R1CA...

@max_wedge
have you tried the hybrid camdriver in bright light condition with tons of foliage or so? ive tried it... and so far the jpeg processing is quite fast compared to that of rmrcys...

and currently, what is your camdriver?

what i like about the HYBRID camdriver, is that, movie recording is good, it doesnt chop, and its not blocky even in fast motion. tho it waves a bit.

yeah, it's fast, but buggy - ever tried taking a pic of a leafy tree in bright daylight? I tried 8-10 times today, and each time, the camera crashed.
Didn't try out the vid part, but the WB also seems a bit disappointing - very cold, and the "spot photometry" thing makes getting a correct exposure very difficult.

So, untill Aks prepares another beta-release, i will stick to my own R1BC tweaked driver!

My results concur with yours IRFCA_WDG-3A.

My modified cam driver (non-hybrid) also crashes in the circumstances you describe - but less often than the hybrid.

So maybe lower compression (90%) would avoid crashes in the hybrid?

the hybrid compresses low? how come the filsize is at around 250-300kb?

and at 90%?

and why is this:

seq_set_prop_5_0=$z0 $p1 0e
$c1 00

and this

seq_set_prop_5_1=$z0 $p1 0e
$c1 00

i guess its a deeper modification being done here...

below are sample pix:

@all

can anyone post their own comparison against their own mods...

much thanks!
