I'm happy to email anyone the 3.37 software along with the configuration tool if you can get back to me when you get it working!

You're willing to email someone something that I posted on this site for everyone to utilize as long as they help you personally? You have to be kidding. While you're at it, you might as well take credit for my post too. I made sure to acknowledge that other members feedback aided me in gaining the knowledge I needed to work on providing something for everyone to benefit from. Maybe you were betting most members would be dumb enough to not notice the post I created so you can harbor this "top secret" software.

This is an open forum m8, you don't need to bribe anyone for help. You obviously need to curb this duchebag move in the future. Especially if you plan to bribe others with things provided by other members on this site. Use a pay forum for that.

Abosultely not. I wasnt trying to bribe anyone, all i was saying was that i'd send it to anyone that needs it (to download it off this site you need to register.... too email me they dont). Either way, all im doing is looking for helping hand and if suppling the software to everyone else helps, then i'll do that...that was all, no strings attached.

And much respect goes to you for uploading it in the first place, thank you, i meant to take no one's glory there.

as for an update... well, i've got somewhere today with our vodafone account manager who sold us the 990i... basically, they've tested the blackberry connect 3.6 software (3.6 was what i was told - not 3.36 although im having my doubts), but apprently there are still bugs in it (calander entries missing etc) so they are continuing "not" to support it. They said that RIM have version 4 of bb connect but they arent releasing it to vodafone yet, so in turn, i cant get a copy unfortunately.

I'm trying to get more details on "how they got it to work" and on what firmware version. Im expecting a return call shortly, which i will duely post here for others in my predicament (read post above).

I noticed as helpfull as you are, you still didnt answer the question on how to find out the firmware revision running on your p990i.

Anyhow, im still stuggling with this phone, and any suggestions would be much appriciated.... i think im on my 20th master reset about now

In flip closed mode press on the more button then scroll down to status and it will tell you the firmware version...your wanting the organiser number for the firmware revision.
Just to clarify the latest firmware revision is R7A on the p990i.

Information on how to locate your firmware version is on the second page of the Guide that I posted actually. I don't care for the glory, I just want you to understand that this is an open share forum and hopefully we can keep that in mine when make requests.

Those versions of BB that you mentioned appear to be synomous to that used for non Pxxx series mobiles. I have a contact in RIM now and the feedback I personally got does not line up with the story they're communicating to you. I wonder if there is a misunderstanding there. But if you know otherwise please inform us.

I only know what i was told by the vodfone technican regarding the rim bb connect version. I was able to have a candid chat with him rather than getting turned away by the front line support, but he has yet to get back to me, so i cant confirm it one way or the other.

just phoned Rim now to find out what ver i should get and from where

(Research In Motion - +44 (0) 118 902 2520)

got an anwerphone message though, although the message promises a 4hr response.

is bb connect a priced product? or is it readily available to isp's for free (ones that offer blackberry that is).

i've seen so many people on forums using 3.37 sucsessfully it is really getting me down (im not a noob honest!).

so, from what spawn says, my 990i revision is old.... however, the sony ericsson update service thinks im on the latest ver. weird.
are there other sources for firmwares?

T.

BB connect is open to whomever signs a contract to bear the license. At that point, it's up to the license holder (i.e. SE, Nokia, etc..) to integrate it with their system as they wish. The only standard protocols are for those exclusive BB handsets which RIM has a heavy hand on.

It sounds like your firmware is locked to your carrier. This has been an issue for all predecessors of the P990. Due to contractual reasons some carriers haven't authorized SE to allow updates on their phones via the online service. This tie is made with the CDA version of the phone found in the system information. I believe there is a firmware thread for P990 already there. But haven't checked to see if they discussed upgrade issues.

What is your CDA?

I think your right. I found that firmware forum, but there was no mention of getting around it.

I think I may have to get a sim-free unbranded phone as the only way around it.... unless vodafone have plans to upgrade their "branding" on a later revisoion of firmware

My email is getting caned for requests for that software by the way bigfeat. you might wanna put another link to your (excellent) guide/thread on this thread.

Cheers

Finally...a solution.

It was the vodafone p990 causing the problems all along.

If vodafone supply your p990, it cannot upgrade to the latest firmware...the sony ericsson update service does not allow it to go higher as the stupid branding wont work on a higher revision.

We purchased another sim-free unbranded p990, fully upgraded it using SEUS (sony ericson update service) and used bigfeats guide to set it up. It now works perfectly.

Vodafone have told me that they plan to release a new version of thier frmware branding on the 13th oct.... hopefully that version allows you to upgrade your p990 to the revision you need to run the software, as we now have 3 x p990's here that are useless until then.

Many thanks for your help chaps.

Tony.
