Jan, in the meantime you could always read your Yahoo email over a Wap site. You can try
p5.oa.yahoo.com
or
wap.yahoo.com
I've had problems with wap.yahoo.com. I can read email, but the calendar and address book don't work correctly.
Good luck!

In my case I needed IP address in numbers.
You can ping address with command prompt(XP)
typing ping -t pop.your address (in my case ping -t pop.hinet.hr for Hinet in Croatia).Only with numbers my e-mail client works.Same with smtp.

This is really frustrating - I still cannot connect - just get the error message 'server not found'.
Settings :
Pop3 server: 216.136.173.10
Pop3 port: 110
SMTP Server: 216.136.173.12
SMTP Port: 25
I'm trying to access a Yahoo account and I am on Vodaphone
Please help !

I would wager a bet that your service provider does not support POP3.
I can connect with GPRS, which won't support my pop3 settings, or I can dial up a circuit switched data connection which will. Try contacting Vodaphone to see if they have any suggestions.

Finally managed to get this working - however, is it possible to choose a folder other than Inbox from which to retrieve emails ?

to get an IP adress you can also:
1. open a DOS BOX
type ping smtp.yahoo.com
the answer looks something like this:
Pinging smarthost.yahoo.com [216.145.54.171] with 32 by
Reply from 216.145.54.171: bytes=32 time=180ms TTL=231
Reply from 216.145.54.171: bytes=32 time=170ms TTL=231
Reply from 216.145.54.171: bytes=32 time=160ms TTL=231
Reply from 216.145.54.171: bytes=32 time=170ms TTL=231
as you propably guessed 216.145.54.171 is the IP adress.
perhaps more easy then looking for a search engine to find "reverse IP lookup" or "reverse DNS lookup"up
