Apart from the obvious question of why anyone should bother justifying themselves to you what is wrong with being a geek?
I would much rather be a geek than 'get drunk'. I have never really seen the fascination in drinking to get drunk, I drink because I enjoy the taste and because I like to. I can't say my goal is to ever get drunk (not that I don't get tipsy from time to time

).
I'm afraid I cannot prove to you that I am not a geek because ... well, I am a geek! I like Star Trek and Star Wars, in fact I like most sci-fi. I enjoy reading Tolkien and C.S. Lewis; I enjoy Latin puzzles; I studied astrophysics, late Roman history and Anglo-Saxon religious conversion at uni; I enjoy opera and the theatre; I like foriegn film; I read magazines like Stuff, T3, Wired and ocassionaly Focus and New Scientist; I use Linux (at least I will when I reinstall it) and I enjoy solving computer problems myself rather than using technical support. I watch programmes like Time Team, Question Time, nature and scientific documentaries and I enjoy reading history books and scientific papers.
The thing is, I am jolly proud to be a geek!

I said I was a geek, not a dictionary.

Incidentaly, you didn't use a capital letter at the beginning of your sentence.

indeed, its all relative as someone important once said... (who was that!

)
on here its easy to portray oneself as a geek because by definition we are pretty much single minded by the focus of the forum
however, away from here you would not recognise me as even an SE fan as I rarely discuss the topic with friends and colleagues and also even being an IT specialist I never, never discuss my day at work with my family as I've always considered that a no-no even before having a family
conclusion: in the real world I am definitly NOT a geek and in fact my other activities in life more than show things for me are the complete opposite. its just lucky that alot of my time doing such activities involves me being online and hence, having one eye on Esato... but then, I feel that alot of our daily activities involve online time so there is nothing new in that either

@masseur
I am very much a geek I suppose. I enjoy what are commonly considered to be 'geeky' things. It's a label like any other. If it weren't for geeks though, we wouldn't be having this conversation now.
@fatreg
Nmes are a personal thing, whilst proper names should have a capital letter, you are free to spell your name any way you wish.
