Hi all,

I have downloaded the software and tried to follow the pdf guide, but I seem to be getting basically nowhere. I am a complete noob to the whole Blackberry thing, and don't really quite understand how it all works, but my system administrator here at work says I'm all set up from his end, I have the latest firmware installed, the phone syncs just fine with PC suite, but still no joy. After I've done the provision bit I just get 'Starting service' flashing up on the screen, and nothing else happens (I've left it for up to an hour). Status always shows as 'Off'.

Also, when I try to do the 'generate keys' bit from within the desktop software, it does not matter whether I select automatic or manual the 'Generate' button is greyed out.

Can anyone shed some light on what may be going wrong?

Thanks for the posting of the client.
Is the link still available? As I cannot open the links anymore.

Hi tankee531

Yes according to Vodafone I am definitely set up for the Blackberry service (at a whopping £28 a month!), so I don't think that's the issue either.

Actually tankee531 I phoned Vodafone AGAIN just to make absolutely sure that everything was setup ok at their end, only to be told that I didn't have Blackberry set up at all. Bear in mind that I asked for it to be set up 2 weeks ago, and when I first started trying to get the P990 to work and couldn't that I phoned them only to be told that it was definitely set up. Turns out that they'd actually set me up on their 'business email service', which is a completely different thing to Blackberry, but I guess most Vodafone customer service people don't know the difference. Thankfully I happened to get a guy today that did understand it, and he set it all up for me correctly straight away. It's now working fine and I couldn't be happier!

hello bigfeat,

ive recently installed and followed the instructions you provided to connect my p990i to BES

i was successfull and able to recieve the PIN and now also receiving my personal emails from yahoo and tmoible blackberry service here in the USA.

unfortunately it was my work email or the blackberry enterprise server setup that im having problem with. i was in the part where its asking to click on generate key automatically on the encrytion part of it, the PIN says unknown type and the generate button is not highlighted for me to click on but the connect button is highlighted. so i tried clicking connect and it saids hanset link connecting but nothing happened after a few minutes, it just stopped. Ive talked to tmobile, sony ericsson my IT department and thats why im asking help from you if its alr8 can u let me know wat im doing wrong pls.

All,

I have installed BES successfully but I am now unable to synchronize my Tasks entries via the SE PC suite. PC suite tells me that I cannot synchronize tasks because "this category is curreclty disabled in my device", which normally indicates that I should be able to use the blackberry service instead. But, AFAIK, the Blackberry connect software is not supposed to synch Tasks.

My corporate email system is Lotus Notes. Has anybody had the same issue?

Note that all other synchronizations work fine:
- emails and calendar entries are synchronized through the blackberry service
- contacts though the SE PC suite

Thanks

I went through this awhile ago. I think it has something to do with the Calendar and Tasks being treated as the same type of data. Note that in SyncML, Calendar and Tasks use the same database.

I gave up on BBC because some of my calendar entries were coming through screwy as well. ExchangeActiveSync is ok, but it also doesn't sync tasks/notes/categories. I couldn't depend on it for my BB-based work needs.

The only "full" sync out there (Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, and Categories) is PalmWin/Mac, WM5PC, and BB/BESPC. Note of those combinations are appealing, but I might have to get a TYTN since they cured the speed problem with the Wizards.

I've had e-mail discussions with the DataViz folks telling them they're product is not feature complete or competetive until they are as good as having a WM5 phone or a BB. Of course, they thanked me for their comments, for whatever that's worth.

Good luck,
paul

I'm having no sync issues with Notes and BES. One feature that I do wish was active is the PIN To PIN messaging. If anyone has managed to utilize it please post.
