Ok sorry to be a bit thick, but basically Jah has been lucky enough to get this new firmware for VODA, but the stores and SEUS have not got it ready to install for all other users?
Are we still looking at a Week 48 release for the less privileged P990 owners out there?

week 48 refers to a newer firmware than r3b01, and will first be available to generic world phones

My P990 has been crashing so much, even to the extent that it would restart itself during calls. The final straw was when the speaker on the phone became inactive so today I backed it up, packaged it in it's box and took it into the same Vodafone store I bought it from last week explaining to them all my woes - the phone even crashed as I tried accessing the System Information to show them the revision numbers. I explained to them that most of the problems could be fixed with a simple firmware upgrade but being a Vodafone branded phone I am unable to do this through SEUS. The guy had little understanding of what I was on about but agreed to swap the phone for a new one.
After restoring the backup, the new phone seems to be behaving, but I have a feeling it won't be long before it starts playing up again. It's wishful thinking, but perhaps if enough Vodafone P990 users ask for a replacement like this, all the expensive handsets being sent back to Sony will prompt Vodafone to do something about it?

It really amazes me all this branded nonsense is still going on.
I had nightmares with my first P800 on Orange, as again they wouldn't approve new firmware etc ......
Voda locked the WAP settings on the P910i completely and pissed quite a lot of people off.
I always get unbranded phones now to avoid all this hassle. I haven't bought a P990i yet as it is nowhere near stable enough IMO.
SE have just ballsed this one right up. Nokia may be lookin' good again .....

Well if anyone's bothered about this enough to waste half an hour of your life then phone Voda and register a complaint about their reluctance to use SEUS. (call 191, its free on contract)
As I said before it takes so long to get their CS reps to understand the issue that I suspect Voda have no idea that users are pi**ed off at their firmware practises.
To register a complaint you have to get passed to a supervisor - the CS rep will do their best to resolve the problem but in this case its Voda policy so not a lot they can do.
Explained again to supervisor, who eventually - after talking to technical - knew what I was talking about. She said (to paraphrase...) that they don't use SEUS because they don't want customers bricking their phones. I argued that its supported by SE and O2 so why not Voda, why should we be disadvantaged customers. If I brick my phone I'll just have to send it to Voda for 7 days anyway.
She said she could see my point and would raise it at some future meeting.
Thats about the best we can do. If they register several complaints on the same subject then maybe they'll consider it a bit more. Who knows.
I also tried to get an O2 handset. After a brief discussion about locking she had a look but reckoned she couldn't get any. Didn't expect Voda to be able to but worth a go...
I forgot to suggest to her that the Voda branding is pointless - all there is is startup and shutdown screens, and the only time anyone else sees those (presumably the marketing goal) is when my phone has crashed and is rebooting, so thats hardly a good advert!

Maybe their newer versions will be more locked down. The first P910's sold by Voda just had startup/shutdown videos, then the newer ones had locked WAP settings and a few other bits & bobs.
The danger of SEUS is that Voda can add more crippling features in the new updates.
I agree it's pointless, but it's their marketing machine in play to achieve world domination ........

just spoke to SE about my Voda P990
same old story.. he slated Voda... suggested I take it to a service centre in Tottenham to have the phone reflashed.... again, no date on a new Voda firmware although they ARE working on one.
bah
I know my phone is covered by my home insurance... I might drop it down the toilet, get a replacement and make sure it's an unlocked one!
