But Sony does charge more for its proprietary formats (e.g. memory) - new or not - versus others selling non-proprietary items.
From Amazon.com:
$149.99 = 4GB MSDP by Sony
$129.99 = 4GB MSDP "Ultra II" by SanDisk
$ 89.99 = 4GB SD (full size) by SanDisk
Pricewise, Sony > others, and Sony proprietary formats > non-proprietary.
I say again,
should drop MS/MSD/MSDP/MS Micro and go with Micro SD like everyone else.

I prefer Sandisk over Sony . . . as I find sooo many FAKE Sony memory-cards at my end

I, for one, am glad that SE DIDN'T go with Micro SD "like everyone else" since 4GB Micro SD isn't even available yet. I read that it's been announced by Sandisk and ????, but Sandisk's website doesn't return anything about it in a quick search. Google didn't return any products either.
MS Pro Duo is a good 6 months to a year ahead of Micro SD in terms of memory capacity.
And imagine trying to find that sucker in some good ol' fashioned 70's style shag carpet. GOOD LUCK. ...or in gravel or grass?

the speed difference is apparently with the MSD as opposed to the phone itself. i use a card reader to load data onto my MSD's. completely filling up my 2GB MSD with the reader takes 12 to 13 min. however, doing the same with the 4GB takes approximately an hour. although i am putting double the amount of data on the 4GB, the write speed is clearly slower.
When doing file transfer tests it's important to note the amount of files and their sizes. Number of files affects the transfer speed greatly in my experience.
Wouldn't it be great if you could partition your memory card?
i filled up both my memory sticks only with aac music files so it is pretty much safe to say that the 4GB stick has about double the amount of files that i put on the 2GB one. therefore, i should theoretically be able to fill the 4GB one in 26 min max. the decreased write speed is quite obvious, but it seems to be the norm with high capacity flash memory cards so...
@cletus
i fully agree with you there. it's going to be a while before miniSD's or M2's catch up with the duo pro's capacity, and it certainly won't be any fun keeping a bunch of the tiny micro cards in your wallet, juggling them around and losing some in the process.
