@vincebio
well I will probably get P1i cause I don't like P990 and that's why I didn't buy it
I agree that upgrading from P990 does not necessarily make sense
but there's probably more ppl like me here (i.e. who don't like P990)

One of the big issues is still the size! The P1i has got all of the features that P990i has - except for the flip...

but the size is just in lack of words - small
I'm a big P900 fan and have also had my eyes on the P990i but it has always come down to the size... The P990i was not that much smaller than the P900 and actually I very often find the P900 too big.
Now there's finally with the P1i all the functions I want including that very lovingly touchscreen that I never think I'll buy a phone without having, and the size is like an "ordinary" phone. Rats to SE for releasing the M600i without camera and Wifi - that made the release of P1i come even later...

It looks like you have a P990 (looking at your avatar), so I guess the P1i doesn't have an awful lot going for it from your point of view, however I'd hesitate to say anyone was crazy for considering the new P1i.
I used to have a P900 so right now the P1i is looking pretty damn good from my point of view.
The P1i also has a lot more memory than any other

smartphone, so that's got to help with the wonderful memory leak issues of the previous generations.
Sure the P990 may be a lot more stable than when it first shipped but a lot of people think they shouldn't have been forced to wait 8 months to get a stable phone when spending all that money.
You also have the problem of generic vs branded firmware - not everyone can afford to buy an unlocked/unbranded phone and are at the mercy of their operator to provide the latest firmware, which they often lag behind in.
I know everyone's entitled to their opinion but I'm looking forward to this new phone in the shops so I can see what it's like in my hand

some very valid points made poeple...but i get a feeling this is a tester release, possibly testing the water to see if the public would prefer a non flip top spec phone..
i wouldnt be suprised at all is SE released a mostor flagship model in a few months, 5mp etc, and thats when you will have poeple regretting it.
i actually think that the p990 should have been released with this amount of memory in the first place, but i do think the p1i is rather ugly and the colour scheme has not been thought out well at all. The aesthetics are all wrong..

I've been tempted to close this for most of the day but now that it really has become just another P1 discussion thread, especially repeating the "is it the p990/M600 replacement" topic, the conversation may as well move back into the main thread now please
so... here it is...
