Sorry. I have a corsa as mentioned earlier. I was just comparing the size of the new corsa to the old astra.

I've got a Mk3 (post-face lift) right now, bloody thing lol.

Ford Focus is always going to be a good solid reliable choice, with a fair bit of kit for the price.

However, for the same price you could get a current gen (not the new one due out soon) Ford Mondeo, and expect to get more for your money. All come with remote central locking, nice size boot, electric windows, air con, effcient to run (not as much as a smaller car tho) and look great in my eyes, hence why I'm planning on buying one shortly lol.

Seriously tho, you get alot more car, toys especially for your money, and the insurance isn't that much higher. I mean, I'm 21 with 2 years no claims, only been driving since July last year (2 years on L plates lol ) and they've quoted me £550 for a 2.5 litre Zetec S lol

Righto, a bit of research got me these (I have a bit of time on my hands right now):
-Citroen Xsara Picasso. Not long left for bidding but there are always other. 2001 model, 1.8 16v and 77,000 miles on the clock. Can't go wrong with a Citroen if you ask me.

-BMW 3-Series (318Ise). Decent spec, Climate/c, Cruise/c, e/w etc.
84,000 miles, 1.9l engine and X Reg.

-Fiat Panda. 56 Plate and only 1880 miles on the clock. CD player, remote central locking and driver/passenger airbags.

-Lexus LS400. An older model, 1998. 96000 miles, 4l V8 engine. Very good spec; sat-nav, climate control, electric heated seats. A very good, powerful car. Oh, and it's £4,100... Go on, you know you want it.

-Renault Sport Clio 172. £4,000. W reg (2000). OZ alloys, Air con, half leather interior. The engine is a 2l.

-Ford Focus. 2l engine, nearly 70k miles. CD Changer, power steering and alloys. Comes in at just under £5k.

-Porsche 944 convertible. 138k miles and just under £5k. 1991 model. Alloys, e/windows, remote locking and alarm. Apparently it goes up in value too...

For a 19 year old, a Ford Focus or a Ford Mondeo still isn't that bad.

Having said that, if it was £1000 a year for an Astra estate, will your a bit stuffed then, most cars on the market that aren't going to fall apart on you will cost more than that insurance wise.

The other thing is, why pre-1999? Unless your a mechanic, know your stuff about it, or a very close relative is one of the above, surely its going to be cheaper and a safer bet to buy a new car for slightly more money?

Thats why I'm getting rid of my 1997 Astra, got sick to the back teeth of repair bills because "its at that age".

Cheers for some of those suggestions

I love the ls400 my dad used to have one and it was a sexy car, cud do some fooling around in the back :0

I got a quote for a ls200 and get this, £3800 lol for fully comp 10 month on admeral.

I have had one accident and I think that must be why, although saing that it was the other drivers fault so technically shouldnt effect me at all.

I think with car insurance as soon as you stick a nice brand such a lexus and bmw they f**k you over when your young...

Don't really know what to do now I kinda want a lexus but when the insurance costs more then the car it just aint guna happen...

Honda Civic is not nearly as liked in UK/USA as its in Pakistan. Infact, compared to whats available there, buying a civic is unwise.

"4wheel discs..ABS..Air con..central locking,power windows"
this is standard equipment on nearly all cars there aswell.
