the k850i/z750/w910 have an 'out-dated' chip, correct? ...................
............BUT, they have hsdpa too. did you forget?
and i dont think Marc was implying that few
phones have hsdpa because of the chip...

You seem to have selective reading. I've lost count of the number of times we have to point out that the K850i and Z750i are both HSDPA.

I know I am going to get shouted at for this but whats the point in discussing a successor for a phone that isnt even near release itself?
The K850i is supposed to be the replacement for the K800i which was announced last feb or march, a time between announcements of around 15 months. That means we are speculating on a phone that will not be announced until about september 2008. What peoples expectations will be by then will be seriously different to what they are now.

Walkman 3.0. No Cyber-shot has ever had a Walkman branded player up to now. There's a first time for everything I suppose.
America has no wide or even coastal spread of Digital broadcast TV! whatever the standard chosen years ago its not even accessible. Name me one or two devices that are sold in massive amounts that ppl watch Digital broadcast TV of any kind in America (US, Canada, Mexico)? Nothing. Having a few TV channels (25 or less, 14 of which are just news stations) over the cellular network is not digital broadcast. You're thinking of XM & that other digital Radio broadcast stations thats everywhere around.
I'd love for the US & Canada to follow suit on Europes DVB-H standard, but more entrepreneurs need to step in. More suitable stations & content should be aired. More products at a cheaper level should be available to watch this content. EVEN if for 3yrs companies run at a loss.
Nokia has been at the forefront of DVB-H .... since the Nokia S90 platform - 7700/7710 devices (although those where over the cellular network). Then the N92, now its the N77! which is incredible for what it offers. I don't what a large screen just for the sake of having one. however 2.4" is a nice balance.
Using S60 for Nokia has given them extensibility, and now Motorola - over the 3G network offers TV stations on the UIQ3.1 platform for the Z8 Kick-Slider. I'm beginning to wonder that SE has a deal with Motorola not to release a UIQ3.1 platform device for 1yr - giving Moto that edge. Imagine the K850 with all that it does with UIQ3.1

The US is still ahead of Europe as far as implementation is concerned.

Im not really bothered what Nokia have up there sleeves as ill never buy another one due to the awful reliability, long repair times & poor customer service ive had from 2 previous Nokia phones.
Same story goes with Motorola & Samsung.
SE customer service & back up is brilliant plus the 2 year warranty is an added bonus.
The only things that cloud the recent developments being.
Nobbling the zoom on the K750 with a so called upgraded camera around the same time the K800 was launched.
Having K camera & W walkman series phones, Just give us a decent phone with BOTH camera & walkman features built in please.
The loss of the handy torch function that many K750 & W800 owners find very useful & also allowed video recording in the dark.
Changing the memory stick format, get yourself a decent size memory stick pro duo then find Sony change the format again so it wont work in the newer phones.
I still think that the K750 / W800 have been the best phones so far that SE have made.

I will take that as a compliment and i agree most don't know or care what chip or technology is in their device they just want results but who doesn't want the best they can get especially if it doesn't cost any more.

You really don't need to be technically minded to see the Multimedia/gaming and even the imaging and power management improvements this chip will bring along with chip speeds up to 1ghz. Which even if you don't care how it works will bring a vastly improved user experience and that is what is important isn't it?.
You are right i am referring to the SE smart phones and do find it quite incredible that the non smart phone SE devices have more up to date specs then there supposed top of the range devices. Many of you say you are satisfied with the performance these already produce but they are giving an inferior experience and performance to what is available and yet are not cheaper because of this they are the same price or even more expensive.
I have recently viewed a video with improved quality that has been optimised for devices with the OMAP 2420 chip after which i went back and watched the original video and the difference was indeed very noticeable.
If any of you are happy to accept 2nd best and not get the best user experience available for your money no one is stopping you and you are free to continue buying what ever products you want and the simple fact is as you stay with your devices from SE you just don't know or see the difference as that is all you know so of course it's good enough as you have not compared it to what else is available.
If i am going to spend my money i want to get the best i can why should i settle for less, i also expect to get great great service which unfortunately is something that SE is severely lacking at this point in time as they appear not to care about their users and treat them with contempt.

You are having a laugh have you not read about recent events where SE where happy to abandon there customers and only changed their minds because they were forced to as their users caused so much fuss that it was becoming a major embarrassment to them. Also read the Forum about hiss on Walkman phones where SE acknowledge the problem but don't intend o do anything about plus of course not forgetting the famous WSOD so many SE phones seem to suffer from or the blinking red light dead phone EROM problem on the K800.
All of the above is what has pushed me further away from SE and it's not just me either many more have chosen to do the same. Yes SE may of grown market share and profits but it will be interesting to see what happens over the coming Year. I am not suggesting SE is going to go broke or continue to grow but i don't doubt the knock on from recent events will be felt.
