The IR transmitter on most phones is weak compared to proper remote controls. Be prepared to sit close to your home entertainment system, close enough to actually reach with your hand...

Here is a list of devices my V630i has replaced.

Music Player (I've never owned a stand-alone MP3 player)
Camera (I've never bothered with a digi-cam either )
Alarm clock (now gathering dust)
Watch (After my last watch broke, I just didn't bother buying another. I'd like the BT watch though )
Calender/Diary (Hate these things. Much prefer an electronic device for this)
Calculator (Gathering dust)
Stopwatch (A function I used to use on a watch)
TV (For a while I had no access to a TV and watched news and sport only on Mobile TV)

And this is why I like phones so much: the combination of a user friendly UI and awesome PC compatibility with MyPhoneExplorer makes any a true multi-function device!

I do use my w800i as my primary portable player. However if one is serious about photography, the phone cannot be replacement. After using my phone's camera for a year followed by a sony cybershot w80 (w800 to w80, hehe) purchase, the increase in photo quality was quite evident. Not to mention shooting videos at high res and optical zoom.

The one I saw has modifications instead of the twometre radius signal, it gives you four in maximum.
