this is a £99-£149 bike with a bunch of stickers. not a top flight £1000+ cannondale!

I guess the ones that really needed it are those with engines, say like: cars and big bikes ? Or those which can run at a very significant - pace ! Standard-ordinary brakes and DISC brakes are just the same to me when attached on a mountain bike et al ! It will STOP anyways . . .

when you are travelling down hill at high speed, and you need to stop very quickly to avoid flying over a cliff or into a wall, I think you will understand why they are starting to fit disc brakes to mountain bikes!!
However disc brakes are more easily clogged up so they are not always the best choice for a mountain bike depending on the terrain, but in some circumstances you just can't beat the clamping power of a set of disc brakes. Plus they are more graduated, whereas traditional brakes can just locks up, disc brakes will keep working without locking the wheel up (wheel lockup is not good if you are trying to steer at the same time)

as someone that rides expensive bikes (just ordered a £1000 bike) trust me what i say that it is an atrocious bike that isnt fit for use. Cable disc brakes are cheap and dangerous and thats what is on that bike. Sony Ericsson should not be putting their name to something so poor, fair play added their name to a decent bike but nothing as bottom of the range as that.
and the components are bottom of the range, the acera or altus back mech is the second lowest of the branded shimano range. There are 8 levels above. My new bike has the second highest range of components on a full carbon fibre frame, that frame will be steel or aluminum at best.
