This thread is completely wrong in its premisses.

UIQ and S60 are not Operating Systems but only User Interfaces (UI).
In fact both UI's run on top os the Symbian OS.

A bit like old Windows 3.1 . It was not an Operating system. It was just an interface/application that ran on top os MS-DOS.
Or for a more recent example UIQ and S60 are like KDE and Symbian is like Linux, the real OS.

UIQ could do everything S60 does (and vice-versa) IF both were using the same OS version.

Dude, your list make me sick!
It have no time or patience to refute (or support) all your list, but here are some selected ones:

By the way, it pretty OBVIOUS you don't know the Sony Ericsson P1, so I would recomend you stop placing these lists full of lies.

1. Newer Symbian OS core with demand paging
> Not needed on new UIQ3 phones. Lot's of *real* memory.

2. Full UI Rotation
> Are you kidding? UIQ rotation is supported for all applications, even those not prepared for it!! > http://www.bysamir.fr/rotateme/UIQ/
It's up to the programmer to support it. If they didn't, it because they don't want to!

11. Dual writing language support.
> Are you kidding? I have dual language and some 20+ keyboards avaialable. Check the screenshot: http://download.my-symbian.com/Forum_attachments/capture0002.jpg

20. SIP / VOIP support
> You better search Google ...

21. WIFI-g standard support
> The N series browser can't handle the G speeds, so supporting B is the same.

24. Fully One-handed Use
> I'm glad it's not one-handed. That would mean the UIQ3 would not be TOUCH SCREEN!!!
I love touch screen.

26. Offline/Flight mode without SIM card
> SIM card is the best theif protection UIQ3 has. No one cares about running a P without it.

27. Integrated SMS/MMS editor
> ???

29. Zip File support
> Freeware available. Search Google.

35. Slideshow with selectable music background
> ??? Search again

38. Turn-On phone on Alarm (nitpick)
> Turn if off *really* (remove battery) and see if it plays alarms.

39. Auto-Send SMS when reject call
> My P1 does that.

You obviously don't know the P series phone.

It's all true, what's in that list, I guess. The fact is that s60 phones have always been completely stable, fully functional with no major flaws. It's a phone you buy if you just want a phone that works and you don't want to even bother searching - "what's the most recent nokia phone? ah, n95, so i'll buy it, it even has GPS". But when you get to use you see it's not much different from the 7650. In fact, I think these mobiles are getting boring. P990, in the other hand, has a fresh new UI, with much more possibilities of use, it's a "special" phone. It's not for everyone (not everyone has the patience required for its bugs ), only for those of us who want a "special" phone even if with some flaws. That's what I think. There's no perfect phone, as we say in the IT world: "There's no guarantees, only compromises".

Just an update.
UIQ stands for User Interface Quartz

And out of curiosity Nokia had a UIQ based phone in 2005, the Nokia 6708.

Not valid points. Nothing to do with UI/OS.

2. No RDS for the FM radio

Does any UIQ3 implemented device have this?

4. No office documents editing application

Valid point.

Hi all,

Mib actually missed the latest addition both in device search which can search any or all fields and is user customisable as to what you want searched and Internet search function now on the Home screen.

Which is IMO a really useful thing to be able to do and very easy to access here are some pictures showing just what can be searched. You can have all 12 or any of them again the users choice.

The search function in WM6 is really useful, and a big advance on UIQ3 - I'm guessing the S60 version is similar. While on the P1 you can't even search all the fields in Contacts, in WM you can search in one place for all the content in all the fields in all the applications. Very functional, and very useful.

I have already said "correct me if I am wrong!!!". Why are you so rude? Is this your nature to be an a**.

I have also said IN-BUILT bundled by the manufacturer. If you bring in 3rd party apps, then there is no end to it. I can bring many apps that UIQ3 dont have, but what is the point of that.

And the list is not about qualitative but QUANTITATIVE.

1. Newer Symbian OS core with demand paging

21. WIFI-g standard support

24. Fully One-handed Use

I love touch screen.

Always the same "I dont have it so it is not important" mentality.

2. Full UI Rotation
> Are you kidding? UIQ rotation is supported for all applications, even those not prepared for it!! > http://www.bysamir.fr/rotateme/UIQ/
It's up to the programmer to support it. If they didn't, it because they don't want to!

29. Zip File support

Not counted. Add-on software.
Is the screen rotation built-in (i.e. press a button and it will rotate) ?

11. Dual writing language support.
> Are you kidding? I have dual language and some 20+ keyboards avaialable. Check the screenshot: http://download.my-symbian.com/Forum_attachments/capture0002.jpg

Can you write in 2 languages at same time e.g intermix chiness & english?

OK. I take your words for it. I take it off my list. You don't have to be a smart-a**.

Isn't yours the opposite?
I have it, so it's VERY important. Even if you don't use it, it's still important.

> Can you write in 2 languages at same time e.g intermix chiness & english?

Yes, I just tested it. Im my case English an Arab.
The Arab keyboard is cool!
