@*, just some clarifications:
P802 - chinese version is for China
P800 - chinese version is for HK
P800 - latin version is for the rest of the world
so you see that there is a P800 (not 802) that is inteded for the chinese market. if you are one of the unfortunate who will buy this, you'll have to use chinese hand writing recognition.
buyers, beware. kung sa greenhills kayo bibili at P800/chinese ang nabili nyo, that will be a nightmare.
note: information taken from october 2002 P800 whitepaper.

@vwbeetle, there is an application called "Jotter" that you can use to jot down notes and draw simple stuff (like directions).

@arnoldc- thanks for the clarification, best to hold off buying in HK for the meantime till we are better informed. thought buying a P800 instead of P802 guaranteed it was not a chinese version even if it was bought in HK, whew
regarding the chinese writing recognition sw since it runs symbian os could it not be possible to uninstall that and to install a diff recognition sw to remedy that?

@vwbeetle, technically possible (just like windows). you unload the chinese o/s, the load in the latin one. however, i'm not sure if the software signature would prevent you from doing that.

@*, here's the story...
Heard from Globe HUB in Robinson's Manila: "Globe does not want to release the P800 because they feel SE Philippines/Service Points (the actual word was "Sony Ericsson Service Center") can't support it."
My speculation...
The P800 is too technical to be supported by Globe's CSRs. Kung T68 nga lang hirap na sila, P800 pa. So, they will be banking on the support capabilities of the Sony Ericsson service points instead. And they feel, the service points are not ready.
In fairness, there's no official word out as far as Smart is concerned regarding the P800.
