Im curious what leads you to believe that its not safe???

@doggman
touché!! perhaps i should have said that the signal is pulled from the ether...

@AD
you hit the nail on the head, however dont get me wrong im prone to my fits of rage when my device what ever it is doesnt work i just understand that its a multifaceted problem and the blame doesnt lye soley on SE or RIM or Nokia......

@defiantbeast

It's the fact that all data is passing a 3rd party server.

I don't like it.

depends on what that you sent on it...if you have critical data operations, use opera mobile, for all the other stuff you do on the phone, use opera mini (and its most of the time), use opera mini

@defiantbeast, all data sent & received with opera mini passes through the opera server so it can be formatted properly. If you are doing sensitive operations such as banking, you should never use opera mini.

@ares

that's what I'm doing since OM exists, but safety is my primary concern as far as web browsing is concerned, and that's why it's one step away from being 'decent' imo.

Actually, this is something I've been thinking about writing for some time now.
Especially for the P990 users, have you calculated how much time you guys have actually lost while updating fw, reinstalling sw & restoring data?
As of Oct. 2007, my P990 downtime was about 10% (including time spent at SE service center). This is an unreasonably high number. In contrast, I updated my P900 only once, back than the update was done using a web browser, and I updated not because I needed to fix problems but simply because there was a new fw available and I wanted to see the process. What I'm getting at is that too frequent updates are not actually desirable on business phones. The best business phone is the one that has 100% uptime. Taking into consideration that the PCSuite couldn't even perform the backup/restore properly (I believe it still has problems with 3rd party applications), spending half a day after each fw update just to install applications and get back personal data is a very good reason why the non-geek professionals will not consider UIQ3 for their use.

so...opera mini is not even decent for you??? its what i use, not opera mobile...and now even more, with version 4.1

it's not a native application, which i find quite annoying in day to day use.

@2manydjs, you are aware that Opera mini should not be used for sensitive transactions, right?
For normal operations it's OK but given that other devices now support flash, SE is dismally lagging behind in features.
