@Gucci

Very useful post, makes a lot sense.

So why don't you throw away the mouse of your desktop so that you could discover & enjoy the freedom and convenience of controlling your PC/notebook via keyboard only ?

@Dogmann

It seems as if Nokia is not the pioneer of so called 'data centric' devices (as you are frequently trying to imply).

The E90 is a brick (even compared to TyTN II), which (still) only supports single band HSDPA/UMTS and a GPS which is next to useless.

No touchscreen, slower CPU, abnormal dimension and last but not least, 'powered' by Symbian OS.

Sorry, it can't compete with the TyTN II.

Oh and for the color depth you should know that WM currently only supports 16 bit, hence it wouldn't make much sense to pack it with a 24-bit display (yeah, there are some manufacturers who have packed their wm devices with 18-bit displays).

a-n-y-w-a-y...

I think we've had this discussion once or twice before

so, its time to remember that this is about the P1 and N95 8gb and I wonder if any of this has helped the original poster in their decision?

@masseur

You're right, I think that he/she is more confused than ever

But at least he/she got an idea of another alternative:

WM, which imo is the way to go anyway, now and (looking at the performance of the other platforms) in the future...

don't get it twisted now, i hate Touching my phone Display,and realy don't like using a stylus, does a Desktop involve either of these? Well atleast not mine.

@Gucci

yes, it's not the same but similar.

TS on a phone provides almost the same level of control as a mouse on your desktop.

Why would I want to sacrifice it ?

Better, almost - the mouse is convenient for the desktop because of the distances involved between your hands on the keyboard and the screen, but it would still be nice sometimes to just reach over and touch exactly where you want to go. You can't really get much more exact than the position of your finger on the screen.

Why would I want to sacrifice it ?

Indeed. Computers started to grow out of keyboard-driven navigation more than twenty years ago, so why would anyone cling to such a backwards technology on their mobile?

I'll say it again - S60 is an old UI based on the even older S40 and its predecessors - the UI itself was never designed for serious smartphone use, and that's never been more obvious than right now, as so many competing devices are being designed from the touchscreen up - including Nokia's next generation.

Nice thread. It went form vs Nokia to UIQ vs S60 in no time:)

Some great arguments there Boinng.

I must admit that even after MotoMing N95 UI was a disappointment form me. Touch rules, that's a fact.

As far as the app variety for S60 goes, I bet any of you that there might be a half a dozen of them that are actually useful.

@ QVGA, as far as BB sucess goes, I think it's success goes for it's mail capabilities, not it's only qwerty kbrd.

I like the variety of choices in P1i. You are able to adjust your input as it fits you. After a week you get it adjusted and then input is much quicker than with any non-touch smartphone.

And this discussion is endless.
Obviously one cannot find a batch of reasonable, general arguments which gives a "winner"... It depends so much on needs.

Hi all

I find it really funny so many are happy to make sweeping generalisations with not one IMO in place.

Now seeing as most of you haven't even used these non touch screens devices you can't possibly know just how fast they are or not so what you claim is just based on your preference and wishful thinking.

I also see people are once more happy to suggest MO or claim i have said things i haven't yet again. Which is just so boring if you are going to claim i think or have said something please make sure i have first rather than hoping or wishing i have as after all it just makes you look petty and stupid when i have to show you are lying.

So lets clear that up first shall we i have not said at any time the iPhone is crap or rubbish in fact the opposite is true. As it is actually a very well built and great Multimedia device as i have said. What i did say is it is just not the device for me and that i don't like Touch Screens any longer i don't hate them i just don't like them big difference isn't it.

As for navigating my 4" non touch screen device with a pointer and clicking with the D-pad this is both quick and easy and requires far less scrolling and is very accurate for navigation but then many of you that like to claim it isn't haven't even tried so just what you are basing your assumptions on is prejudice not fact or reality.

I also couldn't care less what device you choose to use and what suits you best is just your decision to make. But just because it is good for you doesn't make it for every one else does it? It certainly doesn't for me and i am happy to stick with my much larger and clearer screen and the great range of apps to choose from as there is nothing i can't get for my device that i want or need that WM has.

If i was keeping my iPhone i would of been able to set up my S60 device as a WiFi Hot Spot for the iPhone to use it's 3G/HSDPA connection so would actually of a had a 3G/HSDPA iPhone now and that works for any WiFi device.

Does WM have any software that will allow you to set it up as a WiFi Hot Spot and allow other WiFi devices to use it's 3G/HSDPA connection?

Here are a couple of Pictures of ESATO home page and this thread in the E90's browser unfortunately t doesn't capture the pointer over the items which with just a click and it opens and is easily moved around the whole page just using the D-Pad and clicking with the centre of it.

It would be nice to see how much the P1 with it's Opera Browser shows or the TyTN2 with either PIE or Opera for comparison so we can actually see just how well each device renders a Web Page and a difficult one like ESATO. Rather than just being told how great it is lets compare and actually see for ourselves shall we?
