Do you not understand it bav? All their assets are being put together to create a new platform. So yeah, UIQ will go, but so too will S60. There will be a new platform on which each company will run.

@apolloa

Before you respond to someone you better take time out and research what you're writing about.

But UIQ hasn't struggled really, the P1i and the W960 are selling well. The G900 and G700 will no doubt shift also. I just think we haven't seen the last of it, I would say UIQ 4 or 5 will come yet before this new platform launch. UIQ has lost market share probably but I don't think Nokia has saved it.

This can be spun in any number of ways, but it's the death of UIQ whichever way you look at it, and it's hard to imagine that the new UI won't be more focussed on S60 compatibility than anything else, given that there's a far greater S60 ecosystem already established out there.

It's not difficult to see why Paris and Beibei were cancelled now - you don't announce new phones based on an OS whose obsolescence is about to be announced days later.

Are you responding to me? If you are then I suggest you read my posts carefully and make sure that you understand what I wrote. By the way, I don't own a single Nokia phone and am not a fanboy, have ever owned Ericsson and Sony Ericsson until this year when I bought from Motorola. I'm no fanboy of any manufacturer and never will be!

s60 will also "disappear", if you put it that way

You do realize that S60 together with Symbian OS is used as a basis for the new platform. Selected components from other platforms will be integrated. So, yes S60 as a name will disappear, but it will be there for quite a while as a platform. And it will be backwards compatible with S60 3rd Edition, but not with other platforms.
