you say "beg my pardon" when you have offended or interupted someone.

you say "beg your pardon" if someone else does something that they should beg a pardon for but don't.

Oh, i thought you say "beg your pardon" when you do something offensive, as a shortened way of saying "i beg that you pardon me". I've never heard "beg my pardon" before.

maybe it's cultural. In australia generally we say beg my pardon ie: "I beg for my pardon" when we do something offensive (fart for example), or "I beg your pardon" when we are asking someone to repeat themselves, or sarcastically, for example if someone burps we may say "beg YOUR pardon!"

I'm sure we are both right
