One thing we all can agree on is,

the fact the we are one day going to face death,

whether one is poor or rich, they will go 6 feet under at one stage,

agreed?

Yes thats true. I hate it when people think they are superior to you but at the end of the day we are all human we are all going to die and no one is more superior than anyone. You can have all the money in the world and still be lonely. All the money in the world would never have saved my mother from cancer.

Actually, the only thing you can be absolutely 100% sure of is that you exist. You think, therefore you exist, no?

The definition of "faith", is believing with absolute certainty in something which you cannot prove exists, believers are always on a sticky wicket when they try and justify their beliefs with weird science

Its been quite a while.. since I have posted in topics like these.. but heck here I go...

As expected in a topic of this nature.. religion always comes into picture. I have seen people (@Peterkay) here saying "Life is given for a reason, to worship one God."

I see what he is saying.. but I disagree with how he has put it forth. I simply do not believe, that God wants US to worship him all through the period of our lives. If all we are here is to worship him, what are we doing here posting on Internet forums?

I do however believe there is a supreme power, the one that controls everything. The one who "decided" let there be big bang which created matter of which us mortals are "composed" of. Some call it God, I may call it the union of all forces that exist in nature. People with a scientific bend of mind will always question things. I too belong to this category.. but heck there is a limit to which science can explain things. As I have noticed many times in the past, science can, to an extent explain all the "hows" but it feels helpless when you question science.. "why?"
For example, it can explain the valency of the Carbon atom (Those who studied Chemistry at some level might be aware what an amazing element carbon is!) but its stumped if you ask why does Carbon behave like that? Who decided "let carbon have 4 valence electrons and stuff like that.." I dont't kno if you guys are getting what I am trying to say.. there is a pattern in which the universe works.. many things automatically fall itno place. Seasons change, our planet tilts.. it rains.. There are scientifuc explanations to all of these phenomenon.. but the question is.. "why" in the first place do these things happen? Thats where the concept of God.. or a supreme being comes in.

God to me is too superior to be bothered whether or not his "subjects" worship "him". I mean, he is God.. would he really be soooo narrow minded to be pondering over a bunch of insignificant speck in the universe like us not worshipping him? He has bigger things to take care of.

For me religion is something very personal. As said by many, it is a belief system.. not the fact. If all religions are correct, (as most ppl from their respective religions claim), thats where your religion has started to falter.
Accordding to me, the aim of religion is NOT to worship God like a slave. But, it is a set of rules to make our lives and those of others around you peaceful. If there was one true religion, there would have been only one religion on the planet. The very fact that we have thousands of "belief systems" here makes the very fact obvious that "religion" is a man made thing. Any religion "claiming" that it is the truth only and nothing else is loses my respect at that very moment. We are mature people, we ought to know whats right and wrong. There is nothing in between, no religion can claim that it is the only true religion and whatver they believe is true.

That leads me to the bigger picture. Whats the point of all these religions? Is it something trivial as to "have as many followers as possible"? I believe in the religion of love and care. You dont have to be a Christian, Muslim or a Hindu to love and care for people. You just do it. Even if you do not read the Koran, the Gita, the Granth Sahib, the Bible ar any religious literature for that matter , just do good deeds and I am pretty sure God would be happy. I for once do not believe praying to God on regular ocassions will help.

As for the concept of what happens after death, I did hear about an experiment conducted on people who were "weighed" just before they died and right after. Apparently this was conducted many times and people have since then reached the conclusion that the human soul weighs 21 grams!

PS: I do not intent to hurt the sentiments of any religious person here. All I am saying is the religion of love is DA religion to go for.

So your not 100% sure that you will die one day?

If we start on 'existing' then thats a whole new topic mate... and again we will have peoples beliefs coming into it as some of us believe that we exist after death...

I was saying it as regardless of belief, we all know we're going to die...

@whizkid, spot on mate, I couldn't have said it better myself.

@caspa, but do we know we are going to die? What if science discovered the secret of aging? They might then find a cure for death! I agree it's EXTREMELY LIKELY that we will die, but certain? No. It is more certain that we exist than that we will die.

I think, therefore I am.
