That's wrong in so many more ways than one.

Maybe just a little bit exaggerated.
Has it occurred to anyone why in the digicam market we only see CMOS in either really good DSLRs or very cheap keyring cameras? Either very good or very bad.
The new Canon SX1 IS is a CMOS-equipped 10MP mid-range shooter.

I read the specs at DPReview.com. 1/2.3 CMOS. It'll be interesting to see the reviews on this one!

But SE is reducing its diversification in products, so will we see the multimedia monstrosity too on this beast?

Unfortunately, the pricks at Canon have decided not to release this beauty into the hands of avid enthusiasts in the U.S.
Anyways, IIRC Sony had a CMOS-equipped mid-ranger too.. the R1 way back in '06.

The
Sony R1 had a large sensor: 21.5 x 14.4 mm (very close to APS-C) which means that it had almost the same pixel density as dSLRs with the same resolution, like for example the
Canon EOS 40D (sensor size 22.2 x 14.8 mm). I expect that the quality of the photos from the Canon SX1 will not be even near what you got from the Sony R1.
But maybe I am wrong. Canon may have developed some new kind of CMOS sensor, like
Sony's new back-illuminated sensor.

I hope SE doesn't use the EXMOR sensor in the rumored 12 MP phone. I just read DPReview' review of Sony's A900, which is equipped with a 24 MP full frame EXMOR CMOS sensor. The following is quoted from the
high ISO comparison with Nikon's D700:
Whilst the Alpha 900's headline-grabbing 24.6 million pixel count might put it at the top of the resolution tree it does, inevitably, come at a price: despite the large, full-frame sensor, the pixel density is roughly the same as a 10MP APS-C camera, and that means noise is going to be a problem at higher ISO settings. The inherently higher noise, combined with Sony's rather brutal approach to noise reduction, means that the Alpha 900 produces rather disappointing output at ISO 1600 and above.
As the example at the bottom of the page shows, turning the noise reduction off, switching to raw capture and doing some serious post-processing (including cutting the resolution in half) narrows the gap between the Alpha 900 and the Nikon D700 significantly,
but there's no getting away from the fact that in its desire to raise the megapixel bar even further, Sony has produced one of the noisier D-SLRs launched in the last few years.
If they use the same type of sensor, then the 12 MP camera phone will only produce at most 6 MP in actual resolution. (Compare with the
4 MP output from the C905.)

especially we dont need 320x240. also not even VGA we need more than that.
i already hate c905 for video alone. a cheap nokia 3.2,p cam does VGA recording but 8mp c905 failed to do that shame.... what ever may be i dont accept in that side.

Sony Commercializes World's First, Industry Leading Resolution 12.25 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor "Exmor(TM)" for Mobile Phones, new phone expected in March
Sony has just announced the Exmor IMX060PQ CMOS sensor, which paired with its matching auto-focus lens module (IU060F), will turn some lucky handset into a 1/2.5, 12.25 megapixel shooter when it enters the race in March 2009.

I hope they've improved the optics. Either way, we have a real race on our hands.
