@islandPrd

Like I said before, we like the same colour schemes and we surely use our phones in the same manner. You're helping me to seriously consider this phone. Now I have to decide whether the lack of VGA video recording will be worth downgrading.

@SIGHUP

Perhaps you dont need to downgrade. Buy one, use it for a while and decide whether it suits you. It is not much money. If you need to resell, the depreciation is most likely less than N95-2. You need to keep few phones anyway.

So far I find no brand or models that makes everything all well. There are bounds to have some functions that you wish to have but not available without compromising the mobility (weight vs size vs function). Example VGA rec or Xenon attachment on antique K750. There is no perfect replacement, rather just adequate.

I personally isn't going to miss vga rec much. I dont use it often enough. Vga rec is nice to have but not going to kill me if it doesnt. I am more concern about phonecam speed to capture candid moments. It takes approx 4 sec from standby on G705 to capture a 1st pic plus 2-3 sec for subsequent pics. It takes double time on N95-2 (burst mode) and subsequently longer time when auto focus kicks in on subsequent pics. I dislike slow cam as the lost candid moments is rather priceless.

Speaking of vid rec, Canon 5Dmk2 dslr takes full HD video, brilliant.

Oh yes, white one..

To me N95 8GB is still better looking than N97. But I will wait till I see the actual phone. Maybe by the time it is available mid next year, I badly need N95 replacement. Then there will be more announcement from other brands too like SE Hikaru, Nokia Eitri 3" vga 8mp cam with half keyboard which should be lighter and smaller than N97.

This is what Eldar say on G705

The G705 is a mid-range slider packed with a 3.2 Mpix camera, plastic casing and a remarkably loose battery cover. Apart from that it sports a quirky design and bog-standard A200 platfrom with C905-esque software. All in all, it has all the makings of a fairly decent offering - we can't even say it's vastly overpriced for a fashion-conscious solution. Obviously, there is a great many of other offerings retailing at this price point, and the G705's WiFi connectivity or GPS (in all honestly, WayFinder, the version found in the phone, is probably the worst possible application for navigation) doesn't seem to be much of an advantage.

Personally, I like the G705 for the way it feels in the hand and its overall robust feature pack. It will also take a bite of two of the Sony Ericsson W595's sales, even though the latter is positioned in a different way.

Loose battery cover? On mine (black) is solid... zilch movement :confused:

Is there any diff build quality on a silken-gold cover (Eldar's) with a black one?

I notice there are few small holders/feeders, two on top, sides and bottom to lock/hold the bat cover in its position. I must admit that they look fragile. The top two are specially dangerous. Open it on wrong angle and it may chip off or damaged. That may cause looseness.

G705 slider is not as solid as W910, but it is not worse than N95.

The flash everchanging themes looks very nice on black G705. Here is the link to the theme

There are about 10 little feeders/holders wrapped around to ensure that the cover firmly attached to its position. They make a good clicking sound when placed correctly. Unless a reject, I don’t think it can be “remarkable loose”.

Opening the cover need to be same angle as when putting it back as step 4 of the quick guide. Be gentle with the side latches.

As requested by some in PM, I have taken few more outdoor pictures in comparison to N958GB, W910 and K750 at the url above. Click on Extra Information to see Exif

The keypad light is white (good contrast). On browser mode, only the shortcut is highlighted in purplelish backlight

Hey, I tested this phone yesterday and the slide mechanism wasn't exactly working very smoothly. Does this have to do with the gigantic number of people trying/abusing it, or is it a bit dodgily constructed? Any experiences?
