OMG! Can the camera/photography flaming stop in this thread now. This topic is about whether someone should choose either between a 5800 or an iPhone.. .he's barely even mentioned the camera as being a concern of his. This thread isn't for people getting on their high-horse about how much they know about photography.

Ares, thanks very much for the comedy tips. You prove a good point with your P30 - yes it was only 1.3mp, but more than that it was a decent camera, with a proper lens and a larger sensor, and everything else that comes with designing an object to take the best quality pictures, rather than send the best picture messages. So while the resolution may have been low by modern standards, in other ways the quality of your P30's images would have probably been higher than the best of today's cameraphones, in some situations at least.

I studied photography just before the digital boom got going, so cut my teeth on old manual SLRs - much of my college coursework was taken with a cheap old Praktica SLR from the sixties (it was ancient by the time I had it) with a selenium-cell light meter on the prism block and all manual aperture, shutter, and focus. It gave me an appreciation for what's really important in a picture, and to this day it's certainly nothing to do with pixels. I only very recently retired a Canon Ixus V that was all of 2.1mp, but was cracking in low light and took excellent pictures where no cameraphone dared to tread.

EDIT - hope you enjoyed that Ryan

The new touch has a speaker Plus, you can buy those bluetooth adaptors if you want to stream music to bluetooth headphones if thats what you want. Sony do a teeny-tiny bluetooth adaptor too

Iphone has THE most utterly atrocious camera fitted to any "premium" phone since the K750i was introduced, four years ago, the iphone does have some amazing attributes, but let's not entertain any delirious fantasies about it's picture taking abilities please!!
Oh, and i HAVE owned one, along with every other 5 and 8mp camphone from which to base a reasoned comparison.

Yes but I think your confusing apples with grapes here. I don't think anyone for a minute (yes even Apple) tried to market iphone as an image-centric device.

If I remember right the K750 WAS marketed as an imaging phone (and to some extent the w800 as well although due to the walkman branding it was more focused on music). And im sure likewise any phone with a 5mp or even 8mp camera module goes well those manufacturers are not going to put camera modules of those capabilities on and not market them as imaging devices are they?

Apples and grapes.

It's adequate for the purposes of taking snaps with your phone, and nobody's "delirious fantasy" is suggesting anything more than that. I don't think anyone would pretend that the iPhone's "premium" status has ever had anything to do with its camera.

If there's a fantasy being played out here, it's this idea that other "8mp" camphones are worthy photographic tools in comparison.

Couldn't resist jumping in , just so people have a clear idea of what the new generation 8 megapix cell phones are capable of - here's a Samsung i8510 INNOV8 photo from this article (reduced to 800x600 for simplicity).

Zoom into the gas station in the photo, also resized to 800x600

I abandon the idea of getting an iphone but I will get surelly an Ipod Touch just for gaming, apps and the wow effects on girls
The 5800 is better now with the new FW but I still miss...the good SE cameras and easy themes editing! You will say that I am crazy but I am seduced now by the C905 and specially if the new FW will give it better specs! I had a meeting yesterday with a bank manager,it was at 11am when I was walking toward the meeting in the street,it was sunny,I received a SMS and...it was very hard to read it because the screen was nearly white because of sunlights!!!!!
The C905 are exellent under direct sunlight...
