where are such return rates officially documented?
i suppose some could be anecdotal, such as what the occasional chat with testers, repair technicians, and retailers say.
and i suppose what people say on forums about the significant(compared to others) problems found in SE phones over the years could also be anecdotal. in addition, the fact that very few people(i can think of 1 out of many over the years) who have owned SEs that have anything good to say about their 'reliability', but is very much the reverse (anecdotal? nope. none of them have any reason to lie).
and then we read articles such as this:
http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/news.aspx?id=43454
the trend of SEs long lasting and relatively significant problems with reliability is blatantly obvious.

Boy you need to check out how many other manufacturers have problems as well(ex which i can recall atm n96, 5800). I have had lots of nokia and a couple of se's (w900i,w960,w980,w760)...and they seem to be reliable till date.
Everyone's got bad luck, you just need to deal with it(i know its frustrating). None of the electronics are 100% reliable, neither is life, and basically most of the people who visit or sign up a forum, do it becuz they have problems, so looking at a place having majority of the people with problems, does not represent a product.

I read somewhere that the earpiece issue is even more infamous for 5800 users.

i didn't say that other manufacturers rarely experience problems. i'm well aware of them amongst all manufacturers. but SEs problems with reliability are significant, applicable to an extrordinarily large percentage of their range, and consistent over the years, compared to other manufacturers . it all points to quality control that has always been in dire need of reform.

The paint on the upper edges of my C702 has peeled off. But for some strange reason I think I'm the one at fault for it...

Well i should say that im pleased with the material they used on the k310, t68i and the t230. the k310 keys were not so good tho. My p1 is going good so far except for the camera button its all white now. Also my sisters k750 had some good painting and my friends k800.

Bhavv's point was that past SEs have better build quality. Take a look at K800, K750 and W810 for example.

My K750i and K800i are still perfect in mint working condition, except the K750i got dust under the screen. My K850i keeps on developing too many software problems, and the paint on both my current phones peels from after one month of daily texting.
The problems with

started with the K850i. Before this phone they were a brilliant mobile phone manufacturer. I want them to be as good as they were up untill the K800i, since then they're going downhill. And putting shiny paint over the buttons of a phone is just the most stupid design idea ever made.
And right now, ever

phone is just an exact copy of the K850i, except for the C905 which is the only somewhat decent phone they currently have. Even for mid range handsets, :SE;'s quality is now falling behind the competition.
Here is a review of 2008 Shipments of all Mobile phones:
http://mobilezoo.biz/manufacturers.php
2008 sales positions
1) Nokia
2) Samsung
3) Others
4) Motorola
5) LG
6) Sony Ericsson
Compared to 2007, there is a huge problem with

-
1) Nokia
2) Motorola
3) Samsung
4) Sony Ericsson
5) Others
6) LG
As they have included others as a category,

isnt even in the top 5 anymore. If you think that this doesnt have anything to do with how bad their products are becoming, you must be an employee of

thinking that your company is still the best.
With the rubbish products that

have announced this month, their sales are going fall even lower, while both Samsung and LG will continue to increase their sales due to their vastly superior products. When it comes to overall unit sales, the figures speak for themselves - release poor products that are worse then the competition, and watch your sales begin to fall.
If

keep up their current poor standard of products, they will eventually go bankrupt. I do not want this to happen, I want to see

do well and become as good as they were up untill the K800i, but untill they bother to improve their products and listen to their customer complaints, they arent going to get any better.

are in trouble right now, and the only way that they are going to be able to pull themselves out of this mess is if they bother to listen to complaints like mine and all the others that were made over 2008, during which I was just like all the other

fans, pretending that there was nothing wrong with the company or the products because I was blinded by loyalty. After owning the deficient products, and looking at the sales figures, I now have a better perspective on just how much

are messing themselves up.

Amen to that! One thing though, I found the K750i to be of inferior build quality. All the other mentioned phones were quite well build, as you pointed out, until the K800i.
By the way, SE is still number 5 based on even that report. The others is comprised of all the remaining cellphone manufacturers, so, breaking it up and looking at each of the other's market share will give a less than 7.7 percent that SE holds. E.g. HTC holds less than SE's market share as does Apple but put together with your Sagem, etc, they make up slightly over 20 percent.

Oh yea, the Iphone is the reason why others went up to third place. Well, maybe

can borrow some of Apples marketing techniques and sell millions of deficient products as well =D.
