Dont most people these days want all their tech in one phone with them whilst on holiday? They want to be able to do everything when miles from home.
Well, there is a slight difference between 'Take a holiday from technology' vs. 'Take technology with you on holidays'
Pureness is supposed to fall into the first category.
Besides, gola is right: this phone has to grow on you. It did on me once I saw its screen in action

The X1 is "purdy" enough for me. Any functions I dont want bugging me can be disabled. I will like to see how many units are sold after it first quarter on sale,

i like the idea that they try different technologies.
for a phone it is not really useful and transparent screen will not have good contrast or colors.
i would like to see this technology in a sun glasses that i can watch tv or something when i am on the beach

i don't think that this phone is about sales numbers, its more like an image booster (just look at the price tag/feature ratio). its message is something like "SonyEricsson is innovative again" - which the phone definitly is, it shows people that there is a future for "dump-phones".

Looks like you're f***** if you want to use this in the dark, unless I missed something.

I think it will be OK in the dark. The screen looks to be surrounded by a illuminated box.

It has backlight, the pixels reflects the light emmited by the LED backlight on the edges of the display. to give you an idea of how it works imagine something like this:
^^ Wish they could've used a colored one like this. and for sure it's going to look more ass kicking than ever
