Its basically a good idea everyone has adopted, just like kinetic scrolling and pinch to zoom.

Doubt Google will sue, they don't roll like that, they are too busy taking over the world and building consumer profiles on all of us.

Sad I never tried UIQ.
I like Symbian a fair bit.

As long as the phone is stable.
Nokia has had some terrible quality control on both their phones and PC software.

Nokia still has a particular strength with its qwerty bar Symbian phones (non-touch).
Android is nowhere here.

Last I checked, you can't even send files over bluetooth with Android (without an app, that is).
Also the last I checked, there is no PC Suite equivalent for backing up your data locally (not over the net).

i use kies to backup my apps (and titanium backup) and you can send files.over bluetooth on android, tho i use wifi direct (gs2) as its.much much better than bluetooth and much faster...1.2gig film.took me less.than two minutes to send to another gs2.

Steve Litchfield's latest vodcast has some interesting thoughts on the subject of Symbian R.I.P.

@masseur

When you wrote 'interesting thoughts' I thought they would be interesting but I remembered this is Steve of 'All about Symbian' and I went in with that view into that podcast.

Well, it turns out he hasn't changed one bit, he is still holding on for dear life to Symbian. He went on to promote Nokia's Symbian phones and features that I started thinking of his site.

He says at the end that it is not yet Symbian's funeral which suggests that he at least is seeing that the writing is on the wall.

I bought my Satio about 2 years ago, and I'm sorry to say that me and Symbian never became good friends. After the first months and a couple of firmware updaes, the sharpest edges were removed, but the phone merely did it's job, not more. Most of the times, when a 3rd party developer announced an interesting app, it was available for iPhone and Android, but very seldomly for Symbian, and in those rare cases there actually was a Symbian version offered, I was usually redirected to OVI store, where I was not welcome, since I did not have a Nokia phone.
Just recently, I bought an Xperia Ray and I will probably never ever even consider a Symbian phone again.

I'm pretty much the same. I love the Satio, it's been a great phone, but in spite of s60 not because of it. S60 is retarded. Slow and clunky, very little application support compared to iphone or android even though it's been out longer. Hard to find apps by searching all over, have to try numerous shit freeware/trialware apps before finding what you want, if you can find it at all.

The Satio homescreen is one of the few things that actually makes sense about s60, it's a brilliant addition to the s60 platform, I wish I could port it to my Samsung i8910. Ironic that the best thing about Satio OS is actually the SE shell.

It must be awful to use Symbian at this point, i see many local business etc...designing great quality apps for iOS and Android e.g. First National Bank whom i bank with have an Android app that lets me do transactions, do VoIP calls using my bank balance from anywhere in the world, find nearest ATMs using GPS, keep track of my foreign exchange account etc... its made banking so simple, and such an app doesnt exist for Symbian, that alone has me put-off Symbian, i simply cant go back to crappy mobile site banking. Some tertiary institutes here are also in the process of creating smartphone apps for iOS, Android and BB as many students now own smartphones, many Airlines are also creating apps, and its sad to see Symbian be forgetten.

Apps have become very important part of owning a smartphone, funny thing is back in the day Symbian had plenty of apps, there was never a shortage, on a daily basis there were multiple apps, games, mods/tweaks etc...to be done, now all that has almost completely left Symbian, shame realy.s using GPS, keep track of my foreign exchange account etc... its made banking so simple, and such an app doesnt exist for Symbian, that alone has me put-off Symbian, i simply cant go back to crappy mobile site banking.
