I had mine for 2 months ago (after replacing it twice), when updating the Firmware it become more stabilize, so I can go to No.1 proudly.

I just think the p800 is the best phone ever made so far, but the only problems i have are: -

1. Being a bit bigger than other phones
2. Cannot leave the phone laying around anywhere
3. the screen is just too fragile - any pressure & its cracked

Apart from these issues, i love the p800.............

This has got to be the most dynamic and passionate post chain on esato for a long time.

A few things though. The P800 truly is the first convergence device that amalgamates almost all mobile requirements. The operative word being FIRST. SE have truly done a spectacular job for a 1st generation device.

look at the convenience.GPRS always on gives me movie schedules,tv schedules, reviews, esato, online dictionaries, thesaurus, search engines just one step away.

i get a phone call, jot down info while talking, make an appointment or a new task.try doing that on a regular basis with a seperate phone and pda.

the bluetooth works and works well.needs a little patience.

always on email and IM chat client software truly gives you unblvbl communication power. the sheer pleasure of actually getting sales spreadsheets and commenting on each within a few minutes has made me the KING in my workplace.

Having contact lists with multiple communication options to email, sms, mms or just a combo of each is truly astounding.

There are so many other things that a P800 makes a significant difference to in the business or corporate environment.

I find comments on No back up...restore....syncing...no memory to open contacf list....completely frivalous. The P800 works flawlessly for all the above. If its not working on your phone, then thats exactly what it is....your phone.

The platform, the P800 or community of business users are thus not dissapointed because a few faulty 1st generation P800 have minor issues.

Replace your phone or patiently try the workaround.

The P800 is the TOOL in a business environment.

By the way, I would safely choose option 1

Wow! I was really surprised that my old thread was still going. I thought the P800 evangalists would have killed it off by now.

I'm nearly a "1" now, although it still needs work. Certainly I want the best device on the market but in response to you Hunkone there would'nt have been this many responses to my thread if the problem existed with just one phone.

Keep up the good work people.

Best wishes

Mike

Almost a 1 except -

Poor on board sony software eg. Audio player, calendar. Could have been a lot better

Size limitation and cost of MS Duo format in comparison to SD etc.

Pissing about on Orange for firmware upgrades

Otherways BRILLIANT !!!

You misunderstood my comment Mark. When i pointed out that the problem lay in the phone i did not mean just your phone but anybody who has a problem in their phone which can either be solved with a workaround or replacement.By and large the P800 platform is problem free.

Also, your comment on no. of responses ignores 1 statistic.Only 3 people expressed a vague dissapointment, the rest posted vigarously praising or defending the P800.

btw congratulations on almost moving to 1.what has made this transformation come about? Is everything working now? How?

do tell

Hunkone

This thread is about to finish but I would like to correct your comments.

"...Also,your comment on no. of responses ignores 1 statistic.Only 3 people expressed a vague dissapointment, the rest posted vigarously praising or defending the P800.""

3 "vague" disappointments?? Your "statistic" ignores reality!

The classifications I originally started this thread with were:

1. Deliriously happy & always have been?
2. Had some problems but are now resolved and happy?
3. Had continual problems which are still not resolved?
4. Would like your money back?
or
5. Your partner logs onto ESATO and you've spent too much to admit online to making a mistake?

The replies:

User Option
Foxtrot 3
Ericlite 2
Jplacson 2 to 3
Vowless 2
quick-org-69 changed it for an SPV
Rashkae 2
vod-guy Returned it
arroyotje 4
neuromana 1 (was 5)
cheesescore 3
fahed 2000 2
kradcliffe almost a 1

Hmm let me see. I count 12 disappointments, which in 47 posts would be 25.53% - hardly a vague number. Of the 12, 6 have either returned the phone or still have unresolved problems which is 50% of the "negatives". This is then 12.5% of the total posters, which is 6 people and a full 100% more than the "vague disappointments" you refer to. I hope you comment on your sales spreadsheets a little more accurately than that.

I was lucky enough to go to the F1 race in Monaco at the weekend where it seemed the entire paddock had P800's. I got chatting to 2 people in the Sauber-Petronas team who said that the biggest problem was battery life and "software glitches" (their words).

If a phone manufacturere ever wanted a high-profile (un)endorsement of their product there it is right there.

Later in the Vodaphone Pub a young guy came over to ask me about my bluetooth headset to see if I was having the "same problems" as him. ?? Go figure.

I have resolved my problems by:

- going to R2D
- uninstalling a ridiclous waste-of-time product called appforge which has the alarm.dat file making restores problematic
- chilling out and getting a much better sense of reality about the limitations of all products.

With respect, do you work for SE marketing or something? Your post is very pro-product and seems to skate over the obvious problems which a number of other users have also had. I notice that you have also posted problems so the phone is hardly perfect for you either.

btw my name is Mike, not Mark.

Hi my p800 is the best phone to date but the support for problems is hopeless, My PC (SONY) no longer recognises my phone despite several hours of phone conversation with Orange (useless) Sony-Erricson - Sony UK - Downloaded all the latest software (PC SUITE) drivers etc. but to no avail so it leaves a nasty taste but despite this it is one hell of a peice of kit & I guess that somewhere someone will have a cure for my phone - I hope
