@vermania - Yes it will work with a firmware upgrade - but that wont happen!

@peregrinum

There are three types of people who will deny that the p800 cannot take the New Duo or the new Duo pro. These people don't even hope SE will update the firmware to read the pro. These people also will say something that upgrade is not going to happen. Here they are:

1. Retailers - who still has stock of the old MSDuo(White MagicGate) 64MB and 128MB. Their reason is obvious, they want to clear out all of the old Duo stock as soon as possible.

2. P800 Users who speculate and bought a bunch of Duo with the intention to rip other P800 user who might need it. Peregrinum or something is an example.

3. P800 users who have bought the old slow and expensive white magic gate and need to make themself feel good.

Question for pereg.....
If the P800 cannot take the pro, it means that the P800 cannot take the Duo with high speed(the two has the same interface) Right? Now, looking at the availability of the old white magic gate and the news that the white magic gate is being discontinued(This is sort of confirmed if you take a look at SonyStyle.com - No more 64 and 128MB White magic gate offered except the duo high speed and duo Pro), what memory stick P800 user is going to use?

There are at least two retailers who said that the 256MB is compatible with P800. Do you think they did it on purpose to generate sales for DuoPro? People can return it if it does not work. They obviously has ordered a bunch of Duo Pro in advance and might have asurance that the duo pro work with P800 although SE has not make public announcement with regard to the issue.

The other thing is that SE(Sony) is not going to make an announcement until the Duo High Speed and Duo Pro are readily available. This is with the consideration to maximize the sale of the discontinued White Magic gate Duo.

As I said before SE has confirm that the High Speed Duo work with P800 through email. Another curiosity, SE refuse to answer yes or no when I ask about compatibility with Duo Pro and the fact that the Dup Pro and Duo High Speed has the same interface. They just shut up or saying something like "AT THIS MOMENT P800 is not compatible with the PRO".

For god shake, if you really own P800 and want the best out of it by being able to use bigger and faster duo please write to SE and voice your concern that you want P800 to be able to be able to read the Duo High Speed and Duo pro rather than sitting here and denying. March P800 white paper already gave us a clue that there are actually no 128MB limit the P800 can take so write to SE.........and VOICE your concern. Say something like you want a bigger Duo or else you are going to sell the P800 and buy Nokia Communicator.

yes, people have tested memory stick pro's, they dont work.

the memory stick duo pro is just a smaller version, therefore wont work either without a firmware upgrade.

some people just dont get it....!

I'm probably one of those who doesn't get it... how do u test a MS Pro in a P800?! as far as I know it doesn't fit

@smokinman

There's a whole bunch of evidence to suggest that MS Duo Pros don't work in the P800 (at the moment - without an update).

This is official info, not from an individual or a retailer, and it's all in this thread.

Some retailers are obviously confused, including expansys.

Can you give some evidence to the contrary? If so, please post it.

Oh - btw, the reason that they've stopped making the 128MB MagicGate duo has been established... the P800 does not use MagicGate technology - Sony have started to make regular blue 128MB duos.

You certainly don't know what you are talking about.

Sony has NEVER made 128MB regular(without MagicGate) blue Duo. And they will never made one. The blue Duo you think regular blue Duo is actually 64MB and 128MB MagicGate/HighSpeed Data Transfer announced recently. If you are confused with color let me give you all the DUO products code:

1. MSA-M16A, MSA-M32A: This is regular Duo without Magicgate. Supplied with P800 is MSA-M16A. There is no 128MB of this version

2. MSG-M64A and MSG-M128A: White MagicGate Duo

3. MSH-M64A and MSH-M128A: Blue MagicGate/HighSpeed Transfer Duo(recently announced)

4. MSX-M256A and MSX-M512A: MSDuo Pro

Point 1. is what you got inside P800. Point 2. is rumoured(but seem to be true) to be discontinued.

Point 3. and 4. has the same interface, SE said that P800 is compatible with Point 3. Draw your own conclusion.

If you have not done so, and you want your P800 to support the pro then write to SE and voice your concern.

@Smokinman

Sorry, I misread your first post - we seem to agree that the P800 can support Duo Pros, with an update.

I can't remember where I heard that Sony were starting to make blue 128MB, but you're right, it's probably the dark blue rather than the purple. This would make more sense.

However, you don't give a source for your information... "SE Said" is all very well, but where? when?

Edit:

Doing a search for MSA-M128A does bring back a hit on google - for a store in the far east. (They might be wrong though)

Another Edit:

Scrap that comment, it looks like a regular MS - I guess they have the part number written incorrectly

Please correct me if I am wrong. But all WHITE sticks are MagicGate! and they do not have the high speed interface as the same as the PRO!

Someone else states how they tested the normal Pro in the P800 as it would not fit! Simple...... Jacket! --- want to know more do a search.
