But the fact remains the same,
The XDA2 is a far more superior device than P900, remove the emotions and deal with the facts.
I love SE products, their continued development and innovations, but the spec speaks for itself.
I suppose do you want a PDA with phone functions or a Phone with PDA functions.
Decisions Decisions.

I found i used to leave my ipaq at home, it was just too big, then i decided to get a P800 last xmas, it has been a fantastic allrounder untill i sold it 3 days ago, so i am in fact deciding what to get next, i was interested in the HP5000 (integrated phone ipaq) but it was a design flop. all i know is the XDA 1 was an awkward size. the P900/p800 is a great phone with the PDA functions to satisfy me well enough (i download stock lists & prices into veiwer for at a glance reference) also the size & shape + jog dial control make it extremely usable in practice. i know the XDA is good but its a PDA with a built in phone like you say.
EDIT, the killer app for me would be a multi sim handling phone/PDA "not twin sim holder" not "Line 2" but 2 live ON SCREEN sims, one leasure one work, that can be different networks because i carry 2 phones, which is a pain. the P900 does support line 2 but thats 2 same network lines only.

I'm not too familiar with pocket PC phones so here's a Stupid Question:
Are they capable of sending SMS, EMS, MMS? Are they built in, or a different app is needed. How's the interface? Can you make mulitple folders?

I love the design and features of the P900, but the fact that the memory card reading ability is capped at 128mb pretty much trashes everything it can do. What a waste of such potential. The fact that the XDAII uses the pocket pc OS and takes SD cards gives you a GREAT amount of flexibility in terms of software and memory. The ONLY thing the P900 has over the XDAII in my opinion is SIZE and form/looks. If the XDAII was a bit lighter(more towards the 150 g) and a bit less wide(looked more like a phone!), I would be all over it. By the way, could anyone who has the XDAII post a MP4 video taken with it? How does the video quality compare with that of the P900? I have heard absolutely no mention of the upcoming Samsung SGH-I700 which is going to be released within the next couple weeks. Based on the specs. it has almost the exact same features as the XDAII, except it looks more like a phone, it's lighter(at 160g vs. 200 on the XDAII), and it also has a swivel camera(a def. plus). Any opinions on the SGH-I700?
Now what would be IDEAL is if the P900 were to use the Palm or Pocket PC OS andddd take standard SD cards(sony? yeah right! but we can dream!). Not that I have anything against Symbian(it's very stable I'll give it that much), but you simply have more flexibility with Palm/PPC OS.
Nonetheless the P900 is definitely making me drool, despite it's shortcomings. I think I might cough up the cash for one anyways just because I'm impulsive and impatient!

sms & mms clients are built in (not sure about EMS).
If someone can host the files & will send them a video/pictures to most up tonight.
The cradle even has a slot at the back to charge a second battery separate to the phone.

Many thanks for this informative thread.
You have both mentioned "form" and "function".
For form we have the following choices:
1. Small, credit card size. Easy to carry but usually limited usability. Example REX6000.
2. Medium, typical mobile phone size or small PDA. Easy to carry but screen usually limits range of applications. Example SE T610 and the old Plam 160x160 res machines.
3. Large, typical PPC PDA. Not easy to carry but nearly a laptop replacement. Example Clie NX80 or iPAQ.
Now function:
1. PDA only. Example REX6000.
2. Phone and PDA. Examples Ericsson R380 and Treo 600.
3. PDA and entertainment device. Example Clie NX80 and UX50.
Now it seems to me that the P900 is trying to play in the middle ground of form and function. Therefore, it will never be small enough and it will never have all the entertainment capabilities. So it is to do with priorities. I have owned phones, Smartphones and PDAs in all the above categories (including Psions with keyboards). I think if you divide your requirements by form and function you should be able to decide on your priorities.

there is one more option: the MS smartphone (called SPV, Canary, Voyager, qtek7070 etc)
it's running windows smartphone, so you basically get the same look and feel of windows, but packed in a neat package that's similar in size to the t610, 7650, 6310 etc.
the only thing that disqualifies it as a pda is the lack of a touch screen. but the operating system does handle email, tasks, calendar, phone, web, wap, and much more.
with this phone you pretty much get a pda in a phone form factor.
i'm currently torn between the ms spv2 (voyager) and the p900.
i'm still trying to decide whether i need a touch screen.

why do some people worry too much about how they would look like while holding a XDA up their ears while making a call? people who own nokias never worry about things like that. check out how one would look like while making a call on a Nokia-9110, 9210, eNgage, 3310, 3650, or even a 7650. or even with a palm tungsten-W. or the huge handspring models with earphones. see.... there are just a lot of ways to do a call, and thinking that you look like holding a loaf to your ear when using an XDA is an ignorable comment. i could say you look like you're talking to yourself if i didnt see you using a BT-headpiece while in your car driving. see... if it suits your lifestyle....then it must be good.
